686 PC ?

Hello,
could anyone be so kind and tell me which 686 model this is on the picture below?



I only found the 686 competitor or the 686 Hunter models with the weighted barrel on the www,but they all have the weaver rail on the barrel.This one has no rail.
I could buy the revolver here in Austria and it is in very good condition with about 1200 rounds gone through.

Any information about this model would help me.

But the competitor has a weaver rail on the barrel,this one has no rail.
If you mean the security lock,this revolver has no security lock

So the first pic you posted has no IL. The 2nd one does. If I really like a gun the IL is not going to be a deal breaker but finding one without the IL makes it better (for me).

I don't know what IL stands for.
I think IL stands for I... Lock.But why makes it better for you?Just the optic or are there problems with the lock?

Internal Lock, or IL. Is the ugly mole that is on the side of the gun. It is considered a storage device. Some refuse to buy any gun that has one, some don't care. As far as I know, nobody likes them.

I fall somewhere in the middle, I don't like them but don't let it stop me from buying a gun I like.

no sorry there is no label,i'm not sure if it is the original box.

Sure looks like a Competitor model to me, but, in the absence of some features found on domestic Competitor models, maybe an export only model? It doesn't have the rail. It has no IL and the rear sight is a standard S&W adjustable unit, whereas the domestic Competitor models used LPA rear sights. I don't think that either grip is original to the gun either - but grips are easily changed and shouldn't be used as a determining factor.

There is only one Revolver in the 3 threads that comes near.It is a 44.Magnum and has the rail.Unfortunately the owner has been banned from the forum.Here's the pic:

At last i think the one i would like to buy is a very early competitor or an export model that was not available on the US market

S&W made sooooooooooo many variations of this gun. Some with unfluted cylinder, some with flutes. Some with Mag-na-porting, some without. With and without barrel weights. With and without a Weaver base integral to the barrel. Different sights. Pre-lock/post-lock. New frame/old frame. Export/domestic. Sooooooooooo many variations. Each with a unique product code. To bad the box lost it's end label. Without it, it will be very difficult to know for sure exactly what it is.... other than "very cool".

S&W has two product #'s for export 170082 is a 6" "Target Champion" and 170121 is a 6 shot fluted Competitor. the domestic competitor was a slab side if memory serves me right. Product #170319 is a 686(?) with this type of barrel and scope mount. I think someone had the Performance Center do a build without the scope mount. For that price I would buy it.

And don't forget S&W is very expensive here in Austria.
I don't know what the new Competitor costs in the US.
In Austria they want nearly 2150USD for it!

On the frame under the grips there is engraved CMP0061,behind the cylinder i found the number 003.
