I have the chance to buy a 686 plus 4" for $540.00. Is that price ok? I haven't seen it yet but the pic looks good.

Make sure the revolver is mechanically sound. Ensure it locks up solid, there is no indication of severe fouling around forcing cone and cylinder, no bulge in the barrel. Remove grips and check for condition. I would say if it is in at least 80% condition appearance wise you have a winner. If the factory box and etc. are with it, then all the better.

Make sure you know who the seller is and at least get a bill of sale. If you do not know the seller, get his or her driver's license information. I do not know what the laws are where you are at and if you need to process through an FFL.

You do not want a stolen gun and also make sure there is no issue with the serial number like appearance of altering or attempting to remove.

Meet the seller in a secure public location for your safety. This is if you do not know the seller.

Sounds like a good price to me. Make sure to look it over like the others have said.

I've been active, looking for a 686 and a 617, and that price is good.

A new one can run you about $120-150 more before taxes. Just need to decide if you want new or used. If you prefer used just make sure the revolver is in good condition

A new one will run at least 200 dollars more with taxes, etc. I think MSRP is closer to 900 dollars. It's a good price lock or no lock.

$849.00 on the S&W website as MSRP. I just looked.

I ended up getting it. Paid 520.00 with a nice gun rug and two speed loaders. It is a lock model but I'm not bothered by that. It's 3yrs old and, like new condition with good lockup.

$520 for a 686-6 Plus 4" in mechanically sound condition???

You sir, got one hell of a deal. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't have a clue or is intentionally trying to rain on your parade.

I just sold a 686-2 with original box for $600 as a data point.

I tried to load a pic, it got stuck I will try again later.
