Just shot my 686-6 Plus for thee first time and really like the revolver except the sights. I guess it's my eyes getting older but I was having trouble picking up the front site on my targets. The red ramp didn't really help much. My son in law also shot it and said the same thing. So, my question is, has any one installed XS Big Dots on their 686 or other revolver's? Do you like them. I once shot a 640-1 with the XS sites and really liked it. Sites were fast to pick up and accurate for me. Just looking for other members experiences before I order. Thanks!

Depends on how far "accuracy" is. The Big Dots aren't much good for distance. I prefer a fiber optic sight in a Patridge blade. They may work fine for your purposes, though.

I usually don't shoot much beyond 10 yds. Today I was shooting at black "shoot n c" targets Everything was just blacked out but I still think I should be able to see the sights better. I did switch over to some 3" orange stickers and was hitting them great. Just cant rely on a bad guy wearing on orange shirt.

I replaced the front sights on my 686+ and other handguns with TruGlo fiber optics. Tried both green and red. Green works best against black target for my eyes. Had a gunsmith install them b/c I don't have a drill press. Vast improvement. As good as my 3-dot tritium.

The red ramp only works well when light it hitting it. I found mine acts like any other black steel sight when shooting under cover, or on a cloudy day.

When the sunlight hits it, they work great. Any fiber optic light pipe sight would probably work best for you, or one with a gold bead.

Red Ramp

I have a red ramp on my 686, and need to change it. I also have a GP100. With the factory black sights, they were impossible for me to pick up. So I bought a red ramp sight for my GP100, and still no improvement. A month later, I bought a green fiber optic sight, and BINGO!! My first shot in double action, hit a target the size of a half dollar. I tried both the red and green fiber optics, and my older eyes can really pick up the green.
