686 production date

Hi guys, I'm a newb to S&W revolvers. Actually this my first revolver. I'm an auto guy, so be kind to me. Soooo, I picked up a 686, no-dash, serial# AAD61xx. I'm hoping someone would be kind and give a rough production date. I know, "BUY" the book. Honestly, $35 for a book to look up a single serial# is a bit stiff. So, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like your M-686 was made in 1981.

I also feel $35 is a bit much just to determine a mfg date for one revolver.

There is another option for those who don't want to buy the book: before I knew about the book, I emailed S&W customer service asking for the manufacture date for my 629 Classic DX, and they emailed me back within 24 hours that the gun was manufactured in May of 1993.
