I just obtained a 686-2 that I had some questions about. It is a 6"bbl with an unfluted cylinder and plain target stocks. Serial No. AZJ****. Thought it was a Classic Hunter at first, but a friend told me they were -3's. Any info is appreciated. Sorry for the crappy pic.

Thanks for the welcome and sorry for the vague post. I was basically looking for any info regarding this configuration (production date etc). When I bought it I thought it was a classic hunter and the original owner had changed stocks, but apparently these are the original stocks. Outside of the classic hunter, this is the first unfluted cylinder, 6" barrel 686 I have come across. But, I am very new to the world of Smith and Wesson. Thanks for the great forum, and I hope to learn much more.

Great looking gun, whatever it is. I checked the SCSW and yes, the Classic hunter is described as a -3, but your serial number puts it at the end of the -2 run so maybe its a transition gun. I don't suppose you have the box with the product code?

I do have the box, the product code is 104249. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help everyone, that is why this is such a great forum. Lagavulin62, I paid just under 550 out the door for this one. Now to brush up on my photography skills so I can actually get a decent pic of it.:)
