686 sight/grip questions

Just picked up my "new to me" 686-4 4". Wow... Trigger like buttah! Can't wait to shoot this thing. Going to the range tomorrow for sure.

Here at home fondling it I noticed that the rear sight, if you hold it lightly by the notch, there is the slightest wiggle to it. Always the same no matter what the windage or elevation is set to. Certainly doesn't seem like it's going to come out, but I was wondering if that was normal or if there was some doo-dad I had to tighten up somewhere.

Also wondering about the grips. They came with very beautiful wood tactical grips (with logo!). I'm very happy with them, but I was wondering what kind of rubber grips the current 686s use. I contacted S&W, but they're taking their sweet time to get back to me.

Oh, and pics will be on the way as soon as I get some time to set up the photobucket thing.

Rear blade movement is normal; Hogue rubber comes standard on the gun. You might want them for hard use and save the wood for looking(they will work well too but good looking wood is getting expensive!). Your -4 is one of the very best of the 686 runs and the last of the true "classic" 686's. Great buy!

Thanks Wayne! Exactly the information I hoped for. I know from hanging out here that the 686-4 was the one to get and I can already tell it's going to be my favorite revolver.

I was going to do exactly what you suggested with the grips. Lay it out all fancy from time to time, but keep the tires on for all the range abuse.
