I purchased a 686-3 Silhouette from my LGS today. I searched for the front sight instructions, but came up empty handed. There was a link posted in threads of others searching for the same thing, but it no longer works.

Thanks in advance. 😁

I think you set #1 for 25 yards, #2 for 50 yards, #3 for 75 yards and #4 for 100 yards. This way you will have the same sight picture for all the targets. Jeff

Thanks Jeff.

To select the setting (1-4), I'm guessing you need to push down on the back of the sight to disengage it from the dial so you can rotate it?

I'll be honest, I purchased it because it is in excellent shape and the price was right. I'm indifferent on the front sight.

You are correct, push down on the rear of the sight and rotate the wheel to the desired sight setting. Use the small allen headed screw to adjust the sight to the height/sight picture you want to use. I had one at one time and had one #zero'd at 25yds with 158gr LSWC with a point of aim point of impact for B27 silhouette targets and another #at 50yds with the same 158gr LSWC for same target. I used another setting for 25yds with 148gr full wad cutters for 6 o'clock hold on bullseye targets. I don't recall zeroing the 4th position. Your imagination is the limit for how you want to use it. Actually it provided a very good sight picture.

Silhouette sight

This is my 10 5/8" 44 mag that I hunted deer with ever since Ohio made revolvers legal. In my earlier years I just used the open sights but the old eyes need help especially in low light conditions. I set the rear sight about half way up and the #1 step at 50yds. From then on, I made all adjustments on the allen screws of the front sight. Step #2 was 100yds, #3 was 150yds, and 4 was 200yds. You shot point of aim at all yardages, if you can judge distances! However, now with the red dot mounted, I can still use #4. The red dot will hit the kill zone out to 100yds. You must always use the same load! ! !
