So I was still half asleep this morning when I came across this...

Just a moment...

I already have a 686-4 seven shot snub but I don't have a snub six shot and because I have no self control I jumped on it. I didn't ask the guy what dash it is, I'll just be surprised when it gets here.

Can anyone tell what dash it is?

Thanks for dropping some knowledge Pizza Bob.

Of course it had to come with Hogue's so I'm on the look out for some grips.

Thanks!

It's different since it has a cased hardened hammer and trigger which most of the 686's did not, would I be completely out of line to say it's a 586 nickel?

But according to my wife I've been wrong before I just don't remember it.

Agree it's dash 4 because of the new rear sight, good news is the 686-4 is the high water mark in the 686 evolution,
you get all the forged goodies, grooved tangs, flash chromed hammer trigger (early production) old hammer mounted firing pin , drilled and tapped frame for optics, pre mim, pre iL.

One thing to be aware of is that the rear sight unit on the 686-4 and revolvers of that generation like the 629-3 / 29-5 etc is the the rear sight unit is unique to that revision only,
There is no mention in the SCSW about this but if you lose that unit while mounting an optic you can't use the current production rear sight because its shorter.
