have owned a 686 since they were first released - all the dash # are good - loved all of mine especially my new 3" TALO - durabile and functional are the 686'S and here to stay

Speaking of...just picked this up tonight, all. Apologies for the terrible photos - looking forward to taking more in natural light in a better set up but you get the idea.

I'm very happy with my 686-6 Plus 3" TALO edition!:D

whore! flooding the forum with that

no jk, that's pretty sweet. love the grips

All this talk about the dash-4 being the best, but nobody has stated why. Anyway, I have a 2.5" dash-8 that's so new, the ink is still wet on the box label. It was intended for special purpose that never came, but that's the way it goes. :o

still available - just received mine - shell test fire date 3-15-10 - will be getting some Hogue grips - these wood grips are NOT available - afraid to damage them

I'm sort of in that dilema too. Got my Talo 686 a few months ago. I want to use this gun, and I love it, but is it too nice use without changing it a bit? Sheesh. I hate it when things are too good to use! Suddenly it's my favorite.

has all the updates up to the MIM

has all the updates up to the MIM

There are both SB and RB Dash 4's.

I don't have the proper reference... But I've been told MIM started with the Dash 4
(e.g., MIM thumbpiece on the SB; Thumbpiece, hammer, trigger on the RB).

Could someone please confirm/refute? TIA.

RB? SB?

everything I looked up said no MIM, and everything I have read from people posting says no MIM until 686-5

I've been told that the 686-4's frame was converted from Square Butt to Round Butt in August 1996, beginning with the "CBC" prefix,
and that the switch to the MIM trigger & hammer occurred at that time. However, I have not seen that documented in S&W
reference material, nor have I closely inspected a SB and RB -4, so it remains conjecture to me.
