Need opinions on cleaning burn marks. Can I use a Birchwood Casey lead cloth remover to remove the burn marks on the front of the cylinder on a 686 3" US Custom Service CS1? I don't want to hurt the bead blast finish. Thanks

Absolutely.

I use one for that exact purpose on all of my stainless guns.

(Never on blued finishes!!!)

Yes, you can use the cloth -- but only because that's exactly the sort of thing it's made for...;-)

I shoot my revolvers so frequently I don't even bother to get them That clean. I rub off whatever comes off with my typical five minute cleaning regimen and call it good.

I agree with Hawg Rider, soak the burn rings with some Hoppes No. 9 solvent first. I dab some solvent around the face of the cylinder and stand the gun upright to let the solvent "dwell" overnight. Too many people get in a hurry and resort to harsh methods first.

Let the solvent work and then attack with a brass brush or stiff toothbrush. Then you can use the Birchwood Casey cloth and maybe a dab of Flitz to get it clean as a whistle.
Once thoroughly cleaned it will be easier to maintain with just the solvent or at least minimum use of the BC cloth.

The lead remover cloth does contain fine abrasives and is marketed as a lead remover and polishing cloth. I expect you can get the same result with a soft, cotton or microfiber cloth and some Flitz or Semi-chrome paste. As for removing burn rings, I don't bother with revolvers that actually get shot. I clean them well with solvent and bronze brushes in chambers and bore.

The older version of the "Miracle Cloth" with lemon oil does an amazing job of cleaning the cylinder face of stainless steel guns. It also does an amazing job of removing the bluing from blued guns. The latest version has replaced the lemon oil with cocoanut oil. Get the lemon oil version. It may not be good for nickel or chrome guns but I don't know.
