I just purchased a 686P 4" and plan on carrying it frequently. I've been researching holsters for quite a while and for most usage, I think I will be going with the Bianchi X-15 (hiking, driving, etc.).

However, I want a non-shoulder holster to carry it concealed too. To make things a little more interesting, and narrowly focused, I have the following conditions:

1) I am limiting myself to a $75 gift card to Amazon.com (give or take $10 or so) that I won in an office pool.
2) I do not want an IWB holster.
3) It must be brown leather.
4) Must be fairly concealable (especially with suits and sport coats).

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I too am searching for a holster for a 4" L frame, mine is a 586. I have bought a few cheap holsters to test out which method I like best for such a large firearm, so far I'm leaning towards a Threeperson's style, It conceals pretty well under coat or heavy shirt and is very comfortable as an all day rig, but I have yet to try a pancake. When I do finally make my choice I will contract a custom maker to do the work.

Here are a few to get you started.

Desantis
Amazon.com: DeSantis Right Hand - Tan - Speed Scabbard (2 Slot) 002TA34Z0: Sports & Outdoors

Bianchi
Amazon.com: Bianchi - 5BH Leather Holster: Sports & Outdoors

Galco
Amazon.com: Galco Silhouette High Ride Holster for S&W L FR 686 4-Inch: Sports & Outdoors

I can reccomend Desantis #2 Speed Scabbard. Available at several online retailers for about $50.00, comes in brown or black, also availabe (#1) with a thumbreak, not necessary IMO. Carries that gun reall y well. Make no mistake, that's a big, heavy gun, takes dedication to carry one that big & heavy. Don't believe you will like the X15, bet that's the start of your unused holster box that we all have!

Haha. Thanks for the input everyone. This is by far one of the best forums I've ever been on.

I really like the G&G linked above and will likely go that route. Either way, I'll update this thread with what I decide and how it works.

Once again, thanks everyone!

Before I forget, and at those prices... anyone have a similar suggestion for a good belt?

I decided to go with the DeSantis Speed Scabbard in black. Although I originally requested opinions on a brown holster, the holsters I liked were too tan for my tastes. Also, I assume a black holster may be a little easier to conceal and not show up as easily in the "gaps" when I'm wearing dark suits for work. I talked to a few more people who highly recommended DeSantis holsters and decided to go with them.

Thanks everyone!

I was going to recommend a Galco DAO. Got one for my 625 Mountain Gun in 45 acp and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Got it on Amazon for around $71 if memory serves.

I have a don humes 721-7 for a 586 for sale that has had the gun in it a couple of times, but never carried it. Sorry for the huge pic, can't figure out how to resize it.
