The 6906s are everywhere and can be found at good (low prices). It is great little double stack CCW, an evolvement of the 2nd gen 469/669.
But what of the 6904?
The blued/black brother to the 6906. According to the SCSW 4th Ed. they were produced 1989-1998. 8 or 9 years of production. However, I have seen very few of these in the past 10 years. Does anyone know why they are so scarce? Does anyone have any idea about production numbers?
One is/ was for sale on big auction recently but the pics were a little sketchy to do any bidding even if I wanted one.
What do you "elder" LEO statesman know of these?

No idea but I've always dreamed of a big dusty 'ole fat book laying around a hardly-used office at Smith & Wesson that has ALL of the numbers for ALL of the guns. Especially for modern guns, this doesn't seem like something impossible to hope for...

Roy Jinks has dropped production numbers sometimes, on some models. Certainly we could agree that a 6904 is a model that is not often going to be requested for a letter, but maybe if you keep an eye on Gunbroker?

Sigh, sorry, I'm no help here.

The 6904 was the first semi auto we were issued back in the 80's. We traded in a mix of M-19's, 66's and 681's. I bought my 681 for what is now an extremely reasonable price. If you wanted the SS 6906, you could have paid the extra $50 out of your own pocket to get it. That didn't work out too well when the S&W's were traded for Glock 22's. Yes, I bought my 6904 too.
