Anyway,
I have a quick question about a 6906 I bought last Friday.
Upon field stripping the pistol I have noticed an area of the frame that appears to be damaged. This area is the "gap" that you can see thorough when the slide is removed and the hammer is fully cocked. You can see down through the magazine well through this gap.
The area has what appears to be very heavy tool marks and appears that the frame was "hogged out". It does not appear that the hammer contacts this area at all, so dry firing without the slide on most likely isn't the culprit.
This is my first S&W auto so they may in fact just be heavy tool marks and I am fine with that, because my Smith is just a mass produced duty pistol and not some high dollar pretty gun that they take time to polish the heck out of. I just want to make sure it is not actual damage that the factory would need to look at.
