I saw a 6906 on for sale on gunbroker a while back that had a exposed hammer on it just like the 5906. I asked the guy if it was a picture of the actual gun and he said it was. I have just never seen a 6906 with anything but a bobbed hammer. my question is did s & w make a 6906 with a exposed hammer or was it changed out from the bobbed hammer? I have never cared for the bobbed hammer and have been kicking myself for not buying that 6906 because I've wanted one for a while but just don't like the bobbed hammer.

All hammers on all 3rd gens are interchangeable, however you would need to use the hammer strut bar from the gun in which you intend to replace the hammer on for it to fit. IE the 5906 hammer will fit in the 6906, if you use the strut from the 6906.

I agree with growr, it's an easy swap, I have a 5906 and a 639 that I installed third gen bobbed hammers on when I used to carry them off duty.....used 6906 hammers....probably a previous owner who, like you, preferred a spur type hammer....

thanks for the info... i would love to have a 6906 but would only want one if it had the exposed hammer. mabye I'll pick one up and change the hammer. I just don't like a bobbed hammer.
