I have a 696 no dash .44 Special (with hammer firing pin and forged hammer and trigger) unfired in the box in mint condition. In a private sale, what would a fair value be?

I sold mine in January for 1300.00. description matches yours.

Hard to say. A few years ago, at a time when most people would have thought what you describe would be fairly valued at around $900, I paid $1200 for a similar set just so it wouldn't get away. A collector of in-demand models in top condition would be willing to pay you a lot more than someone who just wants a compact .44 to shoot.

Probably anybody who understands their scarcity would willingly pay a thousand for that gun, and several would go to $1500 or even more. For all I know, NIB 696 sales may have crossed the $2000 line out of public view. That doesn't seem like a certainty to me, but it doesn't seem impossible.

Have you checked the major auction sites for recorded transactions?

Since private sales rarely bring as much as auctions, I would say anywhere from $700 to $900. There are 3 of them on GB right now, and no one has bid on them.

Hello,
I paid 1050.00 for mine a year ago, mine had box but had been fired, looked like new condition,
Yes there are three on GB now but none like yours, one has some laser engraving and is a dash 1, one the seller states it has scratches and the other has had the sights changed, both used.
You have a very desirable 696 being nib, original box, should bring a premium

I just sold one (as described) on GB for $1100 plus shipping. If I had done a more professional job of photos I suspect I could have seen a bit more.

Timing is everything. That gun is like the CS-1, you'll see them go for $1100 to $1300, then no one can get a bid for $900, then back again. Most sell on GB for around $900 to $1100, but they're rarely new and unfired, they're usually lightly used to moderately used.

I just came across a used 3 inch 696 no dash no lock and no MIM parts.

My buddy offered it me but I am tapped and wonder what they are going for today?

My guess is the prices here are a good starting point then minus the NO BOX.
Would $1100 be a good starting point?
It has been fired and seems like not much too.
I will get some pics up when I can.
I want it but don't need it for myself and just "invested some cash in a .223 CIA AL with a ton of extras. Scope Laser 19 mags ETC ETC

Thanks in advance.

That's been my observation as well...
