Just a little story about a post I found on a gun selling site.
I was prowling, like usual, looking for "S&W" on the list of new for today ads when "S&W 646-1 44 special with crimson trace grips"‏ jumped out at me.
I have been looking for a 696 as of late and was assuming he made a typo so I sent an email asking "Is this a 696 44 spl or a 646 40 S&W?", his response was "646-1 44 special".
So ... am I crazy (very likely), is he wrong or would someone actually convert a 646 into a 44 special?

I am really thinking this may not be the person I want to do business with ... or maybe he has something really special :)

Nope the seller is confused or needs better reading glasses!! I would be on the 696 like white on rice!! Now the same could be said for the 646, even more rare!!

The first batch of 646's were by some accounts, really trash and not popular at all. I can see where someone would (could) convert one to .44 Special with parts from a 696.

Just be advised that this is likely a converted gun and to take all the usual precautions when evaluating it.

Thanks for the input guys - I think I will steer clear of this one. I tired to nicely point out that S&W never made a 646 in 44 spl that I knew of. I got an all cap response that it was what he said it was in so many words. Short and not so sweet response. :)
They made more that 1 696 and I'm sure I'll come across one at some point.
