Online sellers now have Lithuanian GGG and Turkish MKE Nato spec ammo at around $16 for a box of 20. Not exactly cheap but way cheaper than factory sporting ctgs these days. Both claim to be brass cased, boxer primed full power ammo with non magnetic bullets. Any experience with either? The Russian steel cased ammo with plated steel bullets is available for about $13 a box. All may be a better deal today than handloading. Opinions?

I have a 2A1 Ishapore Enfield that I shoot only NATO spec 7.62 x 51 ammo through. I always make sure case head has + in a 0 stamp.

experience-opinions:

Like Zackary, I have an Ishapore, I've stuck with Korean surplus and it's been good. Haven't shot steel from it.

I also have a C308, and have shot both. Seems like the Korean surplus is a bit hotter than the Red Army and Tula, the question I'd have with the Ishapore is more about how it likes the cases.

I have some Armscor 308 I got before the panic, "loose rds" from broken boxes, that was sold cheap in ziplocs by Lucky Gunner I believe. I contacted Armscor and asked about it- they sell both 7.62 NATO and 308. They responded and told me they use the same cases for both.
I also have some Magtech 7.62 NATO in the 50 rd boxes from before this started.
I shoot both in the Ishapore.

For the C308, it runs perfectly with the steel and beats the cases up, so I buy cheap steel and use it in that.

I don't know specifically about the Turkish 7.62 NATO, but I can tell you this: I've got Turkish 9mm, and it's loaded smoking hot, even compared to German NATO overruns.

I bought and shot a lot of GGG ammo, both in .223 and in .308, this brand was imported in large quantities here in Switzerland

The .308 worked fine in my Remington 700 SPS and Springfield Armory loaded at 300 m

I bought a case of GGG some years ago. I shoot it in my M1As. Good ammo, but tends to shoot just a tad bit higher on target then most surplus. Brass case, boxer primed, NATO marked but It does have crimped primers. Its good reloadable brass.

If they are cheaper than a reload.................

guys, you are putting too much powder into the case !!

Unfortunately at today's component prices it will cost you around $20 for a box of 20 .308 Win ammo.

Since I bought my components well before the crunch I could build 20 rounds for around $12. Both calculations are with a 150gr bullet and a charge of 45gr of powder. They are also calculated with brass I already have.

It does look like buying the factory ammo @$16/20 is a cost savings. Buy when you can at those prices, IMO of course

Speaking of being cheaper to buy than reload at today’s prices if you have to buy components. I just bought 500 rds of the polymer coated steel cased .308s for just over $9 a box shipped. I doubt .308s can be loaded for $9 a box if you have to buy bullets, primers and powder. The GGG stuff is going for about $20 a box so I passed on it.
