7 or 8 rd. Mag in your Shield 9 for CCW?

I plan on carrying with the 8 rounder. My aim was off with the pinky hanging free. Pearce extension just showed up today and that feels real nice on the 7 rd mag!

I'm reading some put the Pearce on the 8 rounder, may have to try that out too!

Can't get a CCW here, but when I practice I use 8 round mags. I like the feel of the 8s over the 7s.

Use the one that flawlessly runs 100 rounds of your sd ammo.

If they both pass that test, use the one that feels best.

By then, you'll know the answer to your question

Pearce grip on the shorter mag gives me a more secure grip than the extended mag.

I prefer to carry with the 7 round and the 8 as the spare. Tried the Pearce grip and prefer the stock base plates. Iwb 3-4 o'clock. Ymmv

I carry the 8 round mag. I like the extra length for my pinky finger to rest on. Plus it gives me 9 rounds total, never know when that extra round might be needed!

My wife and I each have a Shield. She prefers the 7 round magazines, because she says the extra length pinches her pinkie finger. I prefer the 8 rounder because my hands are larger, so we just swapped and we're both happy.

Do yourself a favor. Practice and get comfortable with both. You might need the shorty one day.

I prefer the 8-rnd mag, but carry with the 7-rnd because I DO find it easier to conceal. I carry the extra mag in a pocket.

I carry the 7 round in the gun and use the 8 rounder on my side.

Looking this post over I find it compelling how many folks praise and use the Pearce extenders. My Shield 9mm rides in a Remora with 7rd magazine as from S&W. Why the 7 is best explained as I found the 7 to be no more difficult to shoot effectively than the 8 when I used both to check check that out. Carrying with the smallest mag seemed most likely to be most comfortable, so I did. Almost a year and a half later, practice sessions are by far most often with the flush fit magazine because it is in the gun, on me. Consequently, the 7 rnd mag for me. You'all get me thinkin' on those Pearce extenders though.

All interesting replies, thanks folks.

Well, I picked up my Shield 9 - NTS at the Gun Show this A.M. and so far couldn't be happier (I'm going to make a separate post with details). Of course the deciding factor on which mag to carry will be determined at the range, but, just from fondling the gun, I really like the purchase I get with the 8 rd. mag..

And being that I'm a bit "broad across the Beam :(", I have no issue w/ the 8 rounder printing so I hope it performs well at the range as it would be my first choice for CC.

On the hip either IWB or OWB, it's the 8 round mag. In the pocket, it's the 7 rounder.

IMO the Shield is one if not the best mix of round count and small carry pistols on the market.
