Fairly new to reloading still, and I bought some 700X because I wanted to try some while making some 9MM loads and some 40SW loads.

I opened it last night and poured it into my Hornady powder loader, and its so course it won't even dispense? It literally stops the dispenser from going up?

Anyone use this and what do you use to dispense it?

Lyman 55 powder measure, set the adjustable slides to give a deep , not wide cavity, and use the proper technique to settle the powder before and after throwing the handle each time. Has worked with 700 X for decades.

My other method, if I have the measure set and I don't want to change it, is using a dipper, like the ones made by Lee or the ones I make with an empty case and heavy wire handle. Dipping is quite accurate.

I've used it for forty years. Unfortunately, I've found it to be necessary to weigh each charge, or at least set the charge and pan on the scale to be certain that it is at least close to what I want.

Same here

I also have good results with my Lyman 55,used it for 25 yrs. I think 700x gets negative posts about metering because of bad technique or using wrong powder measure.

The powder measures on a progressive press don't do a proper job of throwing a charge either, then the powder gets the blame.
I can use any powder with the old Lyman 55 and throw charges right on with it. Of course this means you have to do it manually , one at a time, off the press and the progressive crowd doesn't want to hear that. So it's the powders fault.
If anyone has powder they can't use , I will take it , I know the secrete. The 55 and a proper technique.

I use it with lee's measure on my classic turret. I really like the versatility of this powder. I load 9mm and 38 special and eventually 45 colt(using 800x for that til I run out). Does my measure throw bullseye accurate? No...but it only varies two tenths of a grain on average for me....plenty accurate for plinking. The Lee measure is pretty darn consistent for me with this powder. Hate to say invest in another measure but that might be prudent here.

All I have is OLD EQUIPMENT.............

One at a time is a good thing, even though it does take a lot more time.

When you get in a hurry, you can tend to make a mistake or get all stressed out........
My doctor told me, "Tinkering" with things and "Smelling the Roses" is great at my age.
Take your time and enjoy life........

Nothing wrong with 700x.............
you just need to learn to work with it and send it down range.

I use it for some of my .45acp loads, (and of course shotgun loads, the only powder I use for 12ga.), I don't have any issues in my pistol loading, but I use a baffle in my Hornady LNL equipment. Heck, you should be using a baffle in whatever you use. My opinion, of course.

If you're having problems with the small rotor, try the big rotor. Second, use the powder baffle. It makes a big difference. This all assumes that the measure interior is properly cleaned and dry lubed (fine graphite is best).

What he said, and wipe the inside and outside surfaces with a dryer sheet, to cut back on static. I use the same measure. Don't expect to get .1 gr accuracy, best I have found is +/- .2-3, so keep that in mind if you are pushing the envelope.....

Didn't even need to read the post.
Reminds me of this lady in one of the church choirs going into rant mode about this real tool of a guy.
Simply said to her "so you've met the man"
700X in a nutshell

while this stuff can be used for pistol loads and to great effect at that, it's really at it's best for shotshells, where the bushings seem to handle this stuff.

First let me be clear I am not ranting or complaining about 700X. As I said I am new to reloading and this was simply a question because I want to use it. I have scoops that came with my Lee die sets. And would have no issue buying a different measure if that is what it took. I just needed to know which. I can't learn if I don't ask.

Don't hesitate to ask. Most of the "Shotgun" powders will make decent handgun powders also, but they were made to dispense from the coarse open shotgun dispenser bar. Just like Unique, for consistent handgun loads it needs to be individually weighed every load. Can make some very accurate loads, but not conveniently. My suggestion is to load handgun loads with finer grain powders, unless ou wish to take the time to individually weigh.

Cheap fix.....

When the measure is in the 'fill' position knock on it a few times. Check weight to see if you aren't getting more consistent throws. A powder baffle in the hopper can help, too.

I went from two to half of a dozen types of pistol powder and they are all difference

It's great to ask, don't pay any mind to us old ranters, sometimes we do it. Just read the posts and learn..it's a good thing. we're not ranting at you Matt, just ranting in general.
When you get old you can rant with us.
