This hobby, it's funny really; to me, so far. I've been very fortunate to have a dear friend to guide me through my entrance to not only Smith & Wesson, but this amazing community as well. The kindness, and openness to sharing knowledge and opinions has made the last two years far better than they could have been.

In the process, and yes - its' been a very non-linear rollercoaster ride figuring out, well - what part of the forum I belong in! In the beginning, duty guns grabbed not only my desire, but respect as well. Namely - the 686 CS-1. The mystique, history, and sheer joy of shooting a quality firearm changed my DNA forever. Then, from there finding a new in box 639 brought me back to this side of the forum finding these guns to be practical lead lasers! But please, let me be clear - I'm not a great shot, only armed with the knowledge of how much I have to learn. Which brings me back to my dear (and very patient) friend. It's no fun going at it alone, and to have a (well armed) guide has helped my tastes and knowledge grow at a pace that has pleased us both. I could have made so many (more) mistakes... Good friends. I only wish in this season that everyone reading this has a buddy like mine to go through life with.

Hey!

I rambled a bit on that, but it needed to come out of me - no apologies.

Around six months ago I found a 4506-1 that I wanted. It seemed like a solid step up from the 639, and with everything I read about the pleasures of the .45 ACP round combined with the low price - It found its' way home with me. Again, what an amazing gun! In between all of this were fantasies of a 952, but more about that soon. After someone on the forum came back to me telling me that if precision is what I'm after - I need to find a 845. I believed him, and still hold it as a "grail gun" to be purchased when the right one comes along... Not being a fan of the phrase: "Someday", I just hold to the methodology of time plus patience plus knowledge, money and instinct will deliver the goods. All of this being a process, I started looking at the steps that led to the 845. So there it was: the 745. Is it just me, but it seems to be an under appreciated model?

"Long story short" sailed a paragraph ago, sooo - I found a LNIB 745 (non billboard) for a very reasonable price online, and now it sits in front of me. I have to confess, I thought it was going to feel just like the 4506-1 with a different trigger. Not even close (to me, at least). It feels so much slimmer and lighter than the 4506-1. I can't wait to try it, but still, I'm left to wonder - why hasn't the 745 gotten the love of the market like so many of its' peers?

Oh, and does anyone feel like parting with their 845?

(I'd be a bigger fool if I didn't ask)...

Pictures coming soon ;).

I believe I was the one that said to get an 845 . I have 3 745's , 2 IPSC models and one plain Jane . They are great guns , but not everyone likes the single action trigger . Also , they don't come up for sale often . I don't know how many all together were made , maybe somebody else has that info .

Full production of the 745 across all three known production variants may be around 15,000 total units.

The 845 is much more scarce… 585 total for the two variants that were made for the North American market plus perhaps hundreds of the WISHCO Target Champion variant made for Europe.

The 745 is a cool pistol but it's built like a production gun. The 845 is on whole different level.

I kinda do have that info. I've posted this info before but I'll post these pictures again. I might as well share my 745 Factory Letter or at least parts of it. I'm very lucky to have a limited run 745 that is different and the letter "payed off."

The email from Mr. Jinks was in response to the inconsistencies that I brought up with my letter.

I have two both "Two Tone". My first one has over 25K rounds through it and S&W refurbished it a few years ago. The second, has only 3K, but will I sell them,?NO. The most accurate "production not special" 0.45s I have ever fired. Dave_n

There is a significant difference in how the 645/745 and the 4506/845 feel in the hand. The grip contour between the two generations is so different. The 645/745 sits a bit higher in the hand, but to me it actually feels a little more comfortable to my medium size hands.
