I have a couple of these, a 29 and a 14. The k frame model 14 is among my best shooters. The lighter frame makes that long tube less wobbly out at arms length. With the big frame, however, the added length tames recoil a bit.

I only have two qualms with the 8-in barrels. One is that I think they look a little funny. Two is they don't fit in my range bag!

I tell people that they will be surprised by how well the long tubes balance, especially the K frames. Try it, you'll like it.
Agreed 100%. I was blown away how they don't feel any longer then a 6".

Under 50 yards, I doubt you'll see any alleged advantage to a a longer sight radius, but I'll bet the difference is noticeable at longer ranges.

I had an 8 3/8" 27 back in the early 1970s, it shot great. I didn't have a lot of money back then and I ended up trading it on something new and shiny. Later I traded for an 8 3/8" 29-2 and about the same time I won an 8 3/8" 57 all of them shot well.

I found through a long period of learniing that I actually shoot short guns just as well and so normally I carry the shorter ones but I've killed deer and wild boar with most of the long ones.

I recently was missing my orignal M-27 and I had a Model 28 which I never even shot as a .357, I bought it to convert to a 1950 target in .45 Colt, and so I rechamberd a spare cylinder for that and then I bought anther cylinder and yoke and chambered that for .45 Auto-rim.

Recently I bought an 8 3/8" M-27 barrel off of eBay and I had yet another M-28 cylinder in .357 so I changed it again - the think can be changed in the shop in about 10 minutes - been thinking about a field change system but for now I will just leave it as is for a while since I have so many S&W in .44 and .45 anyway, and a few .41s

My converted M-28 isn't much to look at, but it shoots good.

Oddly enough, a long barrel is no guarantee of faster loads - My 8 3/8" 29-3 is not a bit faster than my 4" 629, and my 6" Python is slower than my 4" S&W M-19.

I make an ankle holster for that if you are interested. ;)
The Joker makes an in-the-waistband holster, as seen in the 1989 Batman when he shot down the bat wing, if you want something a little more practical :)

Nice project! Barrel to cylinder gap has a lot to do with achieved velocity.

Not all barrels are created equal and some are "faster" than others.

I'm a huge fan of the 8" barrel club. I currently have a 500 mag, a 629 Performance center Stealth, and an Anaconda - all in the long barrel.
Love 'em.
