I ordered a M&P 9 Pro 5" 8 months ago. I know things are crazy, but does that seem a little long to wait? I check every month with the FFL I ordered it from and he says they are just that backed up.

SW rep told me there 600 of the 178010 on backorder right now. I ordered mine in May 2012....still waiting. I was originally told it should be in March '13. We shall see.

Wow. Was really considering one of these, but that's a loooong time to wait. I saw on gun genie they are "allocated". At least they are not "out of stock" as others are. So maybe there's hope???

i ordered one about 8 weeks ago, and still dont have an eta through my local . . .i cant wait 13 months my permit will run out by then???

Kinda what happens "it'll never happen here", when EVERYONE waits until the last minute to get one.

Trojan arms in Troy Il has one in stock to 6 hundred and something.

From the information that I've received recently - S&W is way backlogged. They can produce about 300+ guns a day. They're focussing on M&Ps. A couple of months ago they focussed on ARs. I ordered & paid for an M&P40C in early December before Sandy Hook & was told it could be as long as a 3 month wait. Now they're saying it could be as long as 8 months. I'm number 7 on the list. My purchase was from a Police supplier which is a bit lower priority than regular gun stores because the prices are lower. The last time I checked the gun store told me that according to their info they can expect a shipment on April 1st but I shouldn't hold my breath. It's now April 15th. I could have cancelled my order a month ago & bought an M&P9C at another gun store at about $150 more & without the 3rd magazine & night sights which I'll be getting on the one I ordered.

In other words - I (or anyone else) just don't know. I guess we'll just have to be patient. I'm very thankful that I'm already armed & carrying. My only consolation is there was no other place I could have gotten what I want at the price I paid.

If I'm not mistaken, S&W doesn't sell to the public. So, by "ordering" a gun you are not placing an order with the manufacturer, but with a distributor. Distributors place their orders at the Shot Show and S&W makes guns based on those orders.

So, you can place an order with a dealer and just wait, or you can keep scouring the web. I'm positive that a gun will show up before the 8 months goes by.

You guys need to be dealing with a high volume Smith dealer.

My LGS buys direct from them. Its not unusual for them to get in 50 9mm Shields. This has happened 3 times in the last three months.

They have had Pros during the last 3 months. Pros are on the web too.

If you are waiting for a small shop to get one from a distributor it could be a long time. If you are willing to look a bit, you could probably find one this week.

Agree with jeffhughes. Though while my LGS isn't a high volume dealer, he still has Pro 9's & 40's in his case right now. More importantly, prices are right.

All depends on how badly you want it or if it's filling a need. If it's just a "want", wait. If it's a need, search the avenues available and buy it today.

I got a 9mm Pro in February. It took about two weeks of checking all the local gun stores.

Yeah, I see them pop up, but I ordered mine for $480 LE deal with 3 mags. Cant pay $699 (locally) for the same thing with 2 mags. That was my question to the SW rep, why they were popping up on the net and other stores, but an almost 1 year old order (atlantic tactical) cant be filled. He didnt have an answer.
