Handgunner356: Thanks for the reply. The 845 grips seem a bit small for me and I like wood much better than plastic. What do you think would be the best choice . I found used mags at CDNN for $19.99. I think thats a good price?

I'm not too familiar with the 845, but if it has the same thin straight grip as the 4506 then I agree that it's a bit too small.

I recently got a 4566 and was also trying to find a grip I liked better, and tried a set of Hogue wood grips. They were huge, and luckily I was able to try them before I bought them. I can't believe how thick they are, they make the single stack S&W feel like a double stack. The Hogue rubber grips feel really good if you like rubber, which I don't care for on a concealed carry gun.

I finally settled on the "FBI" palm swell grips for the 1076-style frame decocker guns. They feel great without being too big, and they fit fine. The little gap where the decocker goes is barely noticeable.

I too prefer wood and would love to see Spegel or someone similar make nice wood grips for these guns, but I haven't found anything. Let me know if you find something nice.

I use the Hogue rubber grips on my guns, they do make it feel more like the 5900 size. There are other wood grips out there but some require tapping the frame to mount, the Hogues use a adaptor under the mainspring. There have been at least 4 updates to the 4500 series mags, the newest have black followers and square indents on the feedlips, $20 would be a very good price for those.

I too prefer the palm swells over the regular slipperies.

sorry for the big image, but wanted to show that I scuffed the grips then applied a light coat of Brownells Grit Grip spray paint and it has adhered very well.

I dont carry my CQB anymore, but those grips did have some mileage before parking.

Thanks for all the help guys. After giveing everyones ideas some thought, I put on a old Hogue handall grip I was useing on another gun. It is streched from a lot of use but still felt good and added just enough thickness too fit my hand. I am going to get a new one and give it a try. It will be two weeks before I can get to the range (convention time for me) but will try to give a report then. Regards Ragman.
