Right where I need to be.
Stumbled across a 940, stainless j-frame centennial 9mm with 2" barrel. Gun appeared to be in good condition. I didn't catch what dash it was as at the time, I wasn't that interested. Later, it dawned on me these don't come up too often locally and I have lots of 9mm semi-auto's. Would be nice to have a revolver 9mm. Bottom line is that the shop is asking $585, would likely take $550. Decent price?

I hope it is a dash-1 like the one I found last year, it had some improvements over the no dash. Price sounds in the ballpark if it is in nice condition.

I recently paid $600 for one locally in a private sale (no FFL, ship or tax). That's about the going rate.

No deals left on 940's.

I would have been happy to get one at that price. I paid more for mine, but I didn't want to mess around, I wanted it. It's in good shape and I'm a happy owner. If it's in really good shape for that price you're doing good in my opinion.

I wouldn't sell my three inch excellent with papers and box for less than half again that price.

If you are planning to use the 940 for self defense, try out several brands of ammo and carry with the one that works. The 940 I had was bad about recoil pulling the 5th bullet out of the case and sometimes tied up the cylinder with the bullet. Try this to check for too loose bullets. Load the cylinder and fire 4 bullets and take out the 5th and check to see if the bullet has started to move out of the case. Winchester white box and Blazer Brass were worst in my 940. Some times the bullet would be loose in the chamber and when I pulled out the case, gun powder went everywhere.
Good luck
Wakatomika.
