I have been reading about bullet jump/crimp jump on 9mm revolvers. Apparently it is due to insufficient (actually, none) crimping for 9mm cartridges. Not a problem for crimped .357 cartridges. Can anyone recommend an ammo brand/type that comes closest to a crimped one? I see Speer gold dot recommended. Apparently there used to be a list of approved ammo for the Boberg, which shared the problem, but the link is now dead.

Also, what were the differences between the 940, the 940-1, and the 940-2?

What would be the "birth date" of a BRY 73XX ?

Thanks for any help.

Howdy Fred,

I use Hornady Critical Defense 115gr JHP in both my 940 and 547. I have had no problems with the ammo in either revolver.

The 940-1 corrected a hammer/firing pin problem in the 940. (The firing pin broke in my 940, and S&W fixed it under warranty.)

Like all J-frames, the 940-2 came out around 1996 on the J-magnum frame and it had the new beveled thumbpiece.

Hope this helps,

Bob

The BRY prefix hadn't been "reported or observed" when the 4th Edition of the Standard Catalog of S&W was published, but I'd guess 1994 or 1995 based on the others listed in there.

I have had no issues with bullet jump in my 940-1, regardless of the ammunition being used.

Google Paul Harrell on you tube and search for his video on bullet jump in small revolvers. Essentially he did not observe any jump in revolver cartridges until a round been left in the gun for around three cylinders being fired, except for that one round. That one round was deliberately left in the gun several times after the others in the cylider had been fired.

This is not a likely situation to be experienced in anything like routine use. Go forth with your 940 and prosper without concern.
