Greetings. I'm just learning about the PC945 and am really enamored by its' looks. In particular, I like the shorter models . So, please inform me, is the 945 a "1911" pistol, etc? I gather from its' PC heritage that it's a fine weapon. So for those who are more knowledgeable, please let me in on your secrets. Thanks.

By the way, I did do a search, but mostly what I found was "price checks."

The 945 always struck me as a cross between a 3rd generation and a 1911. 3rd generation slide on a 1911ish frame.

I had the pleasure of shooting a full size once, and it was a scary accurate semi auto.

I can't afford one, but, when I am able, I intend to add one to the safe.

Buds Gunshop has the current 3.5" 945 PC offering for $1300 + IIRC. Regards 18DAI.

Thanks 18DAI. I just checked their site. I'm comparing the 945 3¼ to the SA EMP for concealed carry. I'm familiar with the EMP - like it a lot - but I'd like to find out more on the 945. I know: comparing 9mm to .45acp, etc, but these are what I'm currently looking.

Any others?

I just went through the process of choosing between the S&W 945 and a Les Baer 1911. This is what I found out about the 945 compared to a 1911.

945 advantages:
- no delicate barrel link
- 0.25" lower bore line because there is no barrel link
- more ergonomic grip
- simpler and more reliable external extractor (not that you can say there is anything wrong with the 1911 internal extractor, either)
- better barrel bushing, Briley

Different
- grip angle three degrees more upright

Disadvantages
- proprietary magazines so you cannot use your supply of 1911 mags
- upright grip not well suited to fast shooting (but then again some people say just the opposite)
- minimal aftermarket parts available

The 945 has a strong reputation as an accurate, reliable and easy to shoot pistol.

I decided to buy one.

The 945 is by far the best firearm that I own.
It feels right in my hand. It is very accurate. It is 100% reliable. I only wish that it used 1911 magazines. You will not regret buying a 945. Bruce

Can't help you on the small size but the full size S&W945PC is a superbly accurate firearm with an outstanding out of the box trigger. SASU has summarized the advantages and disadvantages of the 945 vs the 1911's.

Craigcpa,
Perhaps the finest 45 on the market.

I would extend one caution, however. The Briley bushing is very tight. As a result when reinserting the barrel you must go slowly and carefully.

Other than the factory, who's selling magazines for the 945 and at what prices?

If you have the mag release location remachined 4506 mags will work. All the early 945 mags were this way.

Imho the 945 is more reliable then my other high end 1911's because the top cartridge in the mag is much closer to the chamber ala Glock.
My 945 feeds all loads I have tried and is not fussy as far as springs or mags. Can't say the same for my 1911's though I love them also.

SwampWolf,

Speed Shooter Specialties is now offering 10 round magazines for the 945. They are great outfit to deal with and outstanding service.

THE ROLLING STONES

SwampWolf,

They have them listed on the web sight for $35.00 each plus shipping.

Sincerely,

THE ROLLING STONES

I've had my 945 since '97 and its one pistol that WON'T ever be sold.
One problem though is finding good leather for them.
Any ideas???

I got my 945 holster from Black Hills Leather today. Very nice leather and craftsmanship. I had it made for the 4" so the 3 3/4" should fit also.
