I have been considering a 986 PC but it only comes in a 2.5 " bbl. I guess I'm wondering why do the PC treatment on a 2.5? I know Smith does a 5" 986 Pro, but it just seems backwards to me since my understanding is that the "Pro" is a lesser "PC."

I'd like to see a 4" to 6" 986 PC and a 986 snubby "generic."

I have owned a 986 2.5 for about a year now. Old revolver guy who switched to auto, mostly. Only to find an interest in a 9 revo. I like the gun.......but I found myself disappointed in the amt of recoil to my hand firing my 9 reloads for my S&W shields and Browning Hi-power. Guess I assumed the much heavier weight of the 986 would cut down on perceived reduced recoil relative to my lighter Shields. Soooooo..... It didn't provide a better carry piece than my shields.

I shoot the 986 using BMI full moon clips. BUt that also became a sore point. My normal reloads work 100% in my autos, But are much pickier in fitting the loaded moon clips into the 986 cylinder. The combo of the angles caused by loaded rounds which may have slightly different bulges in the cases hangs up on the way in. This does NOT occur at all with factory rounds.

So I load up 3-500 rounds of 9 at a time. Then hand select and try the rounds in the cylinder, and keep that subset separate just for the 986.
A little more work while loading rounds that has discouraged my from using the 986 more.

Your mileage may vary.

Is the PRO really a "lesser Performance Center"? Curious where this thought stems from...
