All, looking for anybody who can give info on my friend's gun. It is a MAB top break rimfire. Barrel says 9 mil. It is a smooth bore so assume it is a 9mm rimfire shot gun.
Back in the day they could actually get orders for a certain stuffed animal. And a taxidermist would go out and hunt it and stuff it for a client. The 9mm shot shell did not damage the hide very much.
I think Fiocchi is the only mfg'r of the 9mmRF shot round now.
Midway carrys it but like most ammo, it's out of stock now.
Not cheap,,50 rd/box for about $55.
Close to a 1/2oz of #9 in the all brass cases. But the velocity is much lower at about 700fps than what the same 1/2oz load exits a 410 2 1/2" case (1200fps)
Winchester made 9mm Rf shotguns last time I saw new ones for sale was Century Arms, selling Russian made B/A single shots. Popular in far north country for shooting small game and birds. 9mm ball was also available. In Europe they were popular garden guns. I've only shot one once. Friend in Ontario has one he uses on grouse.
These little rim-fire shotguns used to be popular in Europe for small birds and pests. Often referred to as "garden guns". Never really caught on in the US. Though, as one poster mentioned, Winchester did make a single shot in that caliber. It may have been intended more for export sales though as they made few of them and they don't show up very often.
Fiocchi ammo does show up from time to time at gun shows. Not cheap but if he wants to shoot it there isn't much else to be found. I have had older ammo from other makers show up at cartridge collector shows but the price is usually even higher and no guarantee of functionality.
I bought a Chiappa Little Badger smoothbore in 9mm Flowbert about 2 years ago. Best damn mouse gun Ive ever owned. Almost no report out of the 24" barrel and the 7.5 shot does a great job up to about 15 feet. Just be sure you lead them a bit..
Wholesalehunter.com has ammo in stock: $37/50 rounds.(Fiocchi)
