This poll is especially directed toward people who have experience with either of these pistols. Which would you rather have, and why? I am interested in less formal plinking, as well as eventually doing some bullseye pistol, and also for reloading/accuracy projects.

I have a Kimber 1911 government STS II in 9mm, it is my favourite shooter, accurate and fun. If you are interested in an accuracy/reloading project, the 952 6 incher would be hard to beat. Have you ever held or shot one? I have shot a few 52-2s and they were a pleasure behold.

I have a STI Sentry 9mm, and a 5" 952. They are both really good guns. In my opinion the 952 is more accurate than the 1911. In saying that I have yet to find a 9mm load that will shot as well as my 45acp loads.

OTHER

I VOTED FOR "OTHER".

I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PPC 9'S AND A 952. I HAVE EXTENSIVELY LOADED FOR BOTH. THEY ARE VERY GOOD GUNS . I HAVE FOUND THAT THE PPC 9'S HAVE ALWAYS OUT SHOT THE 952'S. I HAVE RANSOM REST TESTED SEVERAL OF BOTH AT 50YDS.

I SHOOT ROCK RIVER ARMS 9MM 1911 IN COMPETITION. THEY OUT SHOOT THE ABOVE S&W'S EVERY TIME.

THE S&W PC 9MM'S ARE A GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY. BUT ACCURACY IS THE KEY FOR ME. JIM P

I would choose a 1911 for a 45 platform, not all 9mm 1911's perform flawlessly. A 952 is not really a carry pistol, but it is a fine range gun. And since it won't be a holstered gun I would vote for the 6 inch barrel, it will get a lot of attention at the range.

I voted for the 952-2 (5") only because that's what I currently own. But, had I shot the SigSauer X5 model I may have voted, other.

I shoot both 1911's in 9mm as well as a S&W 952. I have a fondness for a 1911 in 9mm. However, the single stack 1911's in 9mm or 40 S&W are very finicky in terms of function. The wide body Para Ordnance pistols I have in both 9mm and 40 S&W have proven to be totally reliable and very accurate. The S&W 952 is in a league of it's own - totally reliable and extremely accurate but it has a different grip than a 1911.

I shoot both and have had good results. At ten yards or less both pistols are close. Beyond the ten yard mark the 952 begins to show it's accuracy. I believe the heavier pistol is easier to control for more accurate shots. I am not sure if the 6" barrel vs the 5" barrel has any effect.

If I was in the market for a very high quality 9mm target pistol I would seriously look at the Sig 210-5 or -6. That is the original high quality 9mm and still the benchmark to which others are compared.
