I took this Sig P229 Elite to the range today. Hadn't shot it in a while, but it's always been a fun shooter for me. It's fat and heavy, two factors that make recoil very light and well absorbed. This is an older model with the West German S/S frame and short extractor. The fit and finish is terrific. I did replace the plastic guide rod with a steel one. It made me crazy that the plastic one was used in such a high quality gun. Just thought I'd share.

That is a wonderful firearm, the Elite model was always a favorite of mine. I like the slight extension to the beaver tail as well as the forward cocking serrations.

I have always been a huge fan of the P229. I bought my first one sometime in the 1990s however mine was chambered for the 357SIG cartridge and has a german made alloy frame

My favorite one to shoot happens to be my P229 Sport which was made in the German Master Shop and is also chambered in 3577SIG

There was also a short run of stainless framed two tone P229s, once again mine is chambered in the 357SIG cartridge. This one was kind of a cross between the stainless model and the Equinox model. I added the Hogue Tulipwood grips to it after I purchased it

I have to agree that the wide body feeling of the firearm, along with the addition of the wood grips which make it even a little bit wider, make shooting these firearms incredibly comfortable

I am almost as big a fan of the Sig P22X family of firearms as I am of the Smith and Wesson family of revolvers

I bought a 229 soon after they were introduced, and a few afterwards. They were introduced initially in .40 S&W, later .357 SIG and 9mm. After the .40, I had 9s except for a .357 SIG Sport Model. Just fine little guns all. I still have 1995 and 2017 production 9mms..
