Buds delivered my 9mm Shield to my FFL yesterday and I had a chance to take it to the range today. At first, I thought the slide and slide lock were pretty hard to manage. Plus, loading the last round into either magazine was extremely difficult. However, that soon changed after about 150+ trouble free rounds. Now, filling the magazine, while still more difficult than my other 2 pistols, is much easier than before. And the slide and slide lock loosened up quite a bit. Felt recoil is a bit more than my 9mm Sig SP2022, but I guess that's to be expected. I still consider it to be a soft shooter.

I once had a Bodyguard .380, which I absolutely hated and that kinda drew me away from S&W. However, this Shield is awesome! I can't wait to get some more range time in!!!

Here's a pic of my first magazine at 7 yards:

Congrats, nice shooting. Still lurking the Shield mania, I have Sig P220 for home D, P320c for edc. Solid shooters. SHIELD is on my radar.

Got my wife a Shield 9mm for Christmas. She loves the gun, she put about 200 rounds through it. I was able to run a magazine through it. We both agreed it's a soft shooter. However, when I went to reload another magazine, she said thank for loading the magazine for me, picked up her gun and went back to shooting. Guess I will never get to shoot it again. Had the gun cerakote in her favorite color.

9mmCarGuy, congrats on the new Shield and positive first range visit, you've chosen well!

Go ahead, take the plunge. Absolutely nothing wrong with Sigs, but for day-in day-out civilian concealed carry a Shield is a very lovable little pistol.

Have taken mine out once and put a 100 rounds through it. Can keep the rounds in a paper plate at 7 yards but expected more... Probably me getting used to gun. Pistol functions great

Congrats, and like the others all have said, it's a great gun. I just got my Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0, nice EDC combo... Should be putting more rounds through the shield tomorrow.

Update
Added a Pierce grip extension and modified grip a little bit,and hit every thing in sight. Very little recoil. If I can get my wife to try it I'll get some laser sights for it. See loves her colt diamondback

It will grow on you.
I don't get to shoot the one I got for the better half, it's hers and "Don't go shooting my pistol!
You have plenty of your own."

I can relate to that my wife took mine also

Classy

If you are going to color a gun, make it classy and understated like that one.

I'm GOING to buy an Uplula loader, SOON.

I love the S & W MP's, all of them. I have four MP's. My latest addition is my 40 cal. Shield. So far I have put about 80 to 100 rounds through it with no problems.
Surprisingly the 40 cal. recoil is quite manageable. The magazines are very hard for these old fingers to load. I have been using a universal Uplulu magazine loader for many years. My wife can load her own magazines with hers and my fingers aren't sore when I leave the gun range.
I highly recommend the Uplulu for anyone of any size and strength! It works on double stack or single stack magazines.

May I ask how much did the coating cost? Where? I just got my daughter in law a purple holster and purple coating on the gun would make her smile a mile wide :) It will be a GREAT Bday gift for her :) Thanks

It was just $100 at a place called Area-15. It's a custom color they mixed for my wife and I have heard they have done other guns in this color.

Just bought a 9MM Shield today, my first hand gun. Read all of the great reviews and my niece has one and I really liked the size and fiel of it.

I, too, think the slide is tough to pull back (could be just my inexperience as well) and magazines are hard to load. Got all 8 rounds in the extended mag but could not get the last one in the 7-round. A mag loader is next on my shopping list though I have read that letting the gun sit with the slide locked open and the mags with bullets loaded will help ease things. Any truth to that?

I have 2 Shield 9mm. One has the Duty Apex Trigger which is fantastic and my other has stock trigger. Both shoot really well, my Apex a bit better. I also have a Springfield Mod2 and the Shield is more accurate than even my 4" Mod2!

I've had a 9 mm Shield for about two years. About three months ago, I went against my personal rules and put $200 in a $375 gun. I put the Apex trigger and night sites on it. I know that I will probably never get my money back. But, there is a reason I did it. I held and shot about every competitor to the Shield and could not find anything better. I like the night sights and since I as going to have the sights changed, I decided I might as well spend a little more for the better trigger. The Shield is my EDC when I need to make sure I have a real gun but need to be completely non-printing. With the price difference between the Shield and its competitors, you can buy a LCP for when you cannot carry a gun.

The AlienGear 3.0 Tuck IWB is a great holster. I carry my SW .40 Shield cross draw. It is comfortable and accessible. I have carried it for up to 12 hours sometimes on a long trip. I upgraded from the AG 2.0. It is much more comfortable and molds to you with the new steel insert. It conceals very well without printing under a dress shirt or a T-shirt. I prefer wearing it under a light jacket weather permitting as it is more accessible.

I doubt the slide and magazines will loosen up noticeably with use. Learn to do the "push-pull" method (Racking The Slide Of Your Gun ) on the slide ( not just for women ) and get a universal Uplulu mag. loader ASAP. Problem solved.

Thanks, Dirtman. I didn't have a lot of time to "play" with the Shield before buying it as the instructors at the range loaded everything we got to fire. Just practicing here at home now that I own one it is becoming easier and easier for me to pull back the slide and lock it. Thanks for that link. The Upula is on order and will be here Sunday.
