The big problem I have with the glock is its price. It is priced at HK level, and should be priced at S&W level. So anyone that asks me, I tell them save a benji and buy a S&W M&P. Shoot, save a grant and buy a Walther PPQ, a superior pistol than the glock.

I would stay away from Taurus. There's a reason why they have a lifetime warranty.

Most people don't understand what the Taurus "lifetime warranty" really means. It actually means that it will take a lifetime for them to actually fix your gun (if they ever do.) Taurus firearms should be considered the Bic lighter of guns...when they are empty, throw them away and buy another.

So you are going with an Italian design? I have owned s 92f and three 92fs pistols. I have had my Italian made 92fs Inox for 6 1/2 years. I like them, my son does not. It will be in the garbage the day after I die, along with my S&W 10, 64, 58 revolvers. He doesn’t like those either.

I have a SCCY which I have not yet shot but I have heard nothing good about them. I bought it because it was red (I admit to childish behavior) and I even bought a switchblade to match. But it will NOT be an EDC gun for me. It's just "lagniappe"; a little extra grins. Not the highest hi-cap by any means, either.

Any of the old hi-cap S&W 3rd Gens are my first choice but they are not easy to find. A 6906 is the best combination of compact size but still high capacity. YMMV

I am not a 1911 fan but if you want a single action then I would go with a Browning Hi-Power. I love them despite not being a 1911 fan.

However, for simple availability, a Beretta 92 is likely the way to go. They are ubiquitous and will be for years to come.

For top quality (and the new DoD gun) then it's a SIG P-320. Otherwise, any high quality SIG, wait, that's redundant, all SIGs are high quality. I like traditional double action over striker fired so the P-320 is not my choice but it is the newest and so forth. P-226, SP 2022, all great guns from SIG.

I won't ever own a Kel-Tec anything again; SCCY's are likely better quality.

Since I'm betting your already failure with the 1911 platform, you might look at a 9mm 1911. If $ is an object, the (newly retooled) Rock Island Armory 9mm 1911's run from $400 for the basic 1911-A1 to $650 for the Ultra. I have both and they are well built and beyond their price point. Both run like a clock!
If you can afford more, Sig and Springfield both make a great 9mm in their mid range 1911s.

ps. Stay away from Taurus. I've owned several adn quality is a real crapshoot! Besides, a good used Beretta 92FS shouldn't run you more than $450 if that is where your heart lies.

Regarding the above mentioned Kel-Tec Sub-2000,, I have one.
You must specify which magazine you want,, S&W, Glock, or Kel-Tec.
I said S&W.
I just tried my 30 round magazine in my S&W SW40c pistol,,,AND IT FITS!!!
Wow. I carry this pistol when I drive into Dallas. A car protection for red lights stops, etc.
I now will also carry one of these 30 round magazines with it, in case of problems that sometimes have known to happen when stopped at red lights in some parts of the city!

I know a lot of people are buying these surplus guns, but Palmetto State Armory has 92FSs on sale for $450 shipped. For $150 more you get a new gun with two mags, and the mag release where it should be

The Beretta 92FS is a very fine pistol. It is the most extensively tested handgun of the modern era. The average M9 will go ~13,000 round before the first stoppage.

I've owned several 92s, and everyone was a stellar handgun. My current one is an INOX made in Italy, with rosewood grips. It is my HD pistol, and an occasional open carry gun. It can be concealed too. Mine is usually is fitted with a MecGar 20 round magazine.

I recommend it.

I have a lot of traditional 9mm pistols... if I wanted just 1, I would look at the following:

Top tier (to me):
Sig P226
Beretta 92
CZ 75
This were considered the best production guns, and they are all still being made. Older versions are around that can be had for good prices, under $300 for CZ and Beretta, I've found 1 beat up Sig for not much over $300 (and bought it).
Potential drawbacks to the older guns: things are just a little different vs current production.
CZ- new production mags don't fit in pre B's for the most part, except the 18 rd SP01 mags. They fit.
Beretta- the 92s has a heel mag release, and while new mags fit, they might not have the slot in the correct place. However, Taurus mags also might have that slot, and if they do, they also fit.
Sig- biggest con with these are they tend to cost more than the others, and they aren't necessarily any better than a good CZ or Beretta. If you like a safety, they don't have one.

Next tier- S&W 39/59 series, 1st through 3rd Gen.
Great guns, particularly the 39 versions and the 3rd Gen, all versions. Biggest con- no further current production, and parts (if needed) are dwindling.
These are very good guns, on par with the above guns, no matter what anyone says.

redlevel, it is marked “96 DB” so I guess it is for a spurless hammer DAO version. I will let you know if it fits a standard 92/96. It is black leather; it should make you look slimmer.

I am going to buck the stream here,

for a budget conscious buyer

buy a Cannik, yes its a striker fired pistol but I love them very reliable as reliable as my Glock 17L, I have sold off all my sig 9mms they are good guns but they just don't feel as good as the Cannick in my hands.

you can get a TP9SA 18 rd mag, at the 300 dollar point new, or you can get the tricked out model TP9SFX at the $500 point

I have sent more than 2k rounds thru my TP9SA and its still in great shape

I’ve never owned a bottom feeder 9 but I’ve been going around renting at ranges to see what I like.

I’m not impressed with SF guns. Thus far, the hands down leader is the CZ75.

As someone mentioned, you can get them surplus. Canik has a budget version. I think the same gun is sold under the Tri Star brand. I’ve seen the latter at Academy.

I’ve never tried one, but the FEG Hi-power clones have a good reputation, if you prefer a steel, non-SF gun.

redlevel the holster is for a spurless hammer pistol; however, the thumbsnap could be dampened and stretched. I sent my Beretta up to my son via one of his fishing friends. The holster will work with a spurred hammer.

If it were me looking for a 9mm pistol(which it isn't) I'd look at either a CZ 75(SP-01 specifically) or Glock 19/17.

So it appears the OP bought a Beretta, and I do like the 92.

That said, in case the decision has not been made, I prefer the CZ75, which is a utterly brilliant DA/SA pistol. The one issue with them is if you have smallish hands the trigger can be tough to reach.

I recently got a FN Hi Power, which is my first HP. Good lord, what a gun. Mine is EU police surplus and has a lot of miles on it, but wow. It my favorite 9mm I have owned, and I've owned a bunch of them. I think HPs are seriously underrated by today's enthusiasts.

Good examples go for $800+. Not sure you can call that underrated. You can have a clone from FEG for $300 in excellent condition, but even those are creeping up in price.

However, I prefer the CZ 75 platform in DA/SA with a decocker. They still make them and for less than a HP will cost; and there are a lot of clones out, some worse some better, some cheaper some more expensive.

I would love to own a Hi-Power, but so far, one has not come together with me and the money. However, I think I already have the best, a CZ75BD.
