I've been a long time Leupold customer. I have a bunch of their scopes and have been pleased with all of them. Never had a lick of trouble. That is, until a few weeks ago.

I was setting up to shoot one of my varmint rifles on our 500 yd range. I had been shooting it at 200 yds, so I went to adjust the parallax and things got blurry. I could not adjust the parallax and the image just got blurrier. Foolish me, I took a shot anyway and completely missed to the target. Then I found the trouble. See the pics!

I sent it back to Leupold. First time ever for me to use their lifetime warranty. The scope was an older Vari-X III and I was hoping they could realign and re-glue the bell. No such luck. They said they'd send me a newer equivalent. Same 6.5-20 x 40mm, but the better HD glass. Sadly they were out of stock but perhaps 6 wks out.

So yesterday I called to check status and they're still out of stock. However, a very pleasant and professional guy offered me a 6.5-20 x 50mm side focus version. Fine with me! Yeah, it's a larger tube and I'll need some new 30mm rings; probably taller due to the increase in objective. But, I'm delighted! It will ship today or Monday.

Leupold really came through. My old scope dated to the 90's I think yet Leupold stood behind it and is sending me an even better one. Some folks will say Leupold isn't what they used to be. I would disagree. They do have more competition now, but I'm well pleased with their support. Yet another reason for me to keep buying Leupold. Their lifetime warranty is just that.

I bought two 36 power Leupold scopes in 1982 and put both on two single shot falling block rifles. I had one of them out of the safe showing to a friend and I dropped it and the scope objective end looked just like yours. I sent it to them for repair, it was a gloss finish and not quite as big a gap as yours shows. They called me and said it could not be fixed and said they could replace it with a 30 power and the cost would be 103.00 delivered I gave them my credit card and said fine. The scope was 32 years old when I dropped it. This was in 2013 and when I saw the price of the replacement I was shocked, they are a fine company. Jeff

Interesting that you had a similar breakage, jrm53. I must have bumped the scope, but I can't recall a hard impact. It survived for many years on that rifle and wasn't treated delicately. Not abused, but certainly not delicately.

I wonder if the adhesive had degraded over the years, making it vulnerable to slight impacts. I can see the inner sleeve and what looks like adhesive in the separated area. That's puzzling in and of itself as I thought Leupold tubes were drawn from a single piece of aluminum. Maybe that's true of smaller objectives or later scopes. Or maybe I'm just wrong.

In any case, they took great care of me. I mentioned to the rep that I was growing tired of the old Weaver I had to substitute and was anxious to get a Leupold back on the rifle. He just chuckled as if he'd heard that before.

Just wanted to add to the shout out to Leupold Customer Service. I recently bought a used Leupold 30mm Cantilever mount on another forum and when it arrived one of the cap screws for the rings was missing. I was able to contact Leupold Customer Service detailing my plight, and they sent me EIGHT new screws. Problem solved. Can't beat that for service!!

I called leupold before scopping scope destroying air rifles.Guy said you are more likely to damage it by running over it with car than shooting any guns either way it's covered.Never had to use the warranty in my life.

They are an outstanding company. I have taken animals with 2 different models.
