A Chrome Highway Patrolman

You had Cogan do the plating for you. You owe it to yourself and to Cogan to at least ask them if they know what your problem is and what should be done about it. I seriously doubt this will be the first time they've heard about this problem.

I'm more familiar with Metaloy, and they advertise their plating makes fractions of a thousandth inch difference in dimensions, and that on any but the closest surfaces the change will not be noticeable. Cogan plated your cylinder, so you can assume the insides of the chambers were plated, so there may be some dimensional change, but if you go grinding, honing or otherwise polishing on them, you will be affecting the work they did, so once again, I would ask them before doing anything.

PS I must have been typing while you were posting. I've got to learn to type faster! :D I'd say you and Cogan have come to the best possible solution. :)

Froggie, I did ask him before doing anything but normal cleaning. He is going to take care of it. I'm happy.

Got a phone call from Cogan today. He has polished the chambers and he says the empties I sent go in smoother now. He also talked about picking good ammo if there still is a little drag when extracting.

No charge, even though neither of us can say for sure if it was his plating job that caused it.

Cogan seems to be a straight-up guy, and he will get my business in the future!

I took it out to the range today, and it was perfect in every way! I shot 4 different kinds of ammo (.38 and .357) and they all extracted easily, including the Federals that were sticking the worst before. The POI has not changed at all from where it was before the plating. The gun is clearly more accurate than I am. And it is beautiful! Cogan did a good job and took care of me.

The only problem I had was my own fault. I almost always shoot single-action, but today I tried some fast double-action work, and something seemed to jam up. I figured out I was "trapping the trigger", not releasing it fully between shots. I have had that happen a few times with shotguns, shooting doubles. I bet I won't let it happen again!

With double action shooting, if you don't let the trigger fully return, you will bind the action. Ask me how I know. ;) Glad your Cogan refinished Model 28 is working well for you.

You are right. I need all the help I can get, because I am blind in one eye and can't see out of the other.

The front sight blade is not removable. Cogan can cut a dovetail in the sight and insert colored plastic, but the only color they have is orange. Orange may be effective, but it is ugly as sin. I'm going to try masking it and using a little florescent red Testors paint.
I have a method of installing colored inserts of your choice for cheap, with materials you can buy locally. And you can easily change them when your sick of the color you chose. PM me if you're interested.
