A Couple of .32-20s at the Range Today

I had a nice afternoon at the range today. During part of the time I was shooting a couple of guns chambered in .32-20.

The Winchester dates to 1902. The Smith & Wesson is only slightly younger. It shipped in December 1909.

It's not a bad day playing with a couple of pieces of history well over a hundred years old! They shot pretty darn well too.

Very nice, I'm overdue for a 32-20 day at the range. Two very nice looking examples; sure would like to find one of those 32-20 targets!

Cool! The only 32-20 Winchesters I've ever owned were low walls, but I'm sure the '92 would be a blast as well. You've got me inspired to take my M&P 32-20 and my Navy Arms SAA copy out for a little quality time on the range as well.

32-20 Day

Love the combo Winchester/S&W 32-20s. I have the same combo only the dates are a bit different (Winchester DOM is 1895 and the S&W is late 1920s). I love shooting them, but its been a couple of years since they saw daylight. I need to visit the safe and dig them out. Thanks for the reminder !

I also have the same combo, my Winchester was re-barreled by the factory the bore is shiney, it dates to 1910. The S&W is a model of 1905-4th change, is factory nickle plated and not very pretty but functions very well.
I've had the Winchester longer and have enjoyed shooting it for years. The revolver came along at the right time and I thought it might be kinda neat to have a pair that shoot the same cartridge.

They are a sweet combo, especially the target sighted S & W. Have a similar caliber combination but a Marlin 1894 and Colt Army Special in 32-20. Shoot cast bullets in mine and the 32-20 revolver shoots pretty flat to 100 yards.

I know this is an old one but a link to this thread was posted in Pre-model 10 in 32-20. I didn't want to mess up that thread so I decided to jump into this one. I love old .32-20's and have accumulated a few. 1897 Colt Lightning Pump, 1918 Marlin 27S, 1921 Colt Police Positive Special, 1890 Marlin Model 1889, 1923 Winchester 1873 SRC, 1907 Colt Bisley, an unknown falling block I picked up at an auction (I've got to make a forend for it) and last but not least a 1912 .32-20 Hand Ejector Model of 1905 - 3rd Change.

What brand of cartridge do you guys use in your revolvers? I see the muzzle velocities vary widely from 750 to over 1200 fps depending on brand and slight differences in bullet weight.

I'm not sure about factory ammo. I've only shot my reloads.

I too am a 32WCF fan! I have a Hand Ejector 1902 (round butt) from 1902, a Colt Police Positive Special from 1919, and a Late 1980's Marlin 1894 CL.

About ammo: Leave the "Rifle" and "Express" loading to the rifles and stronger actions! In my century old revolvers is use 10X Brand Cowboy Action ammo. Or my Trail Boss hand loads. I use 117 grain cast bullets, my mould is the Gas Check version of the Ideal 3118 by Lyman. These old guns were made for lead bullets and that is all they get. My carbine is where I shoot the hot loads.

Those may be the same cartridge, one advertised for revolver and one for rifle. Remington 32-20s will run those velocities, around 700 fps in my revolvers and 1100 fps in my rifle.

I reload almost exclusively, but have bought a few boxes of Winchester and Remington to shoot, chronograph, and for the brass.

I have a 32-20 target I picked up several years ago. It has a lot of "character". Great shooter. .32's and K-frames are a match made in heaven.

Lead bulleted ammo from Remington, even if the box is marked "Rifle" or "Express", is safe in handguns.

A modern carbine deserves a modern companion: Ruger made a special run of Blackhawks for Buckeye Outdoors in 32-20. These are often refered to as Buckeye Specials!
