Hi guys,
Got sidetracked with moving my home and office as well as teaching some classes and have been away from the forum lately. Took delivery of my first M&P Shield before the move last year, but just got around to shooting it. Mine is the 9mm with no manual safety, and to say I am impressed would be an understatement.
I took it out to a range session for some of my bodyguard class students this past month and let them shoot it alongside my ancient Kahr P9 Covert and a Glock 43. In keeping with their precision shooting training, I made them shoot at blank 3x5 file cards at 10 and 15 meters, and the Shield was up to the task, shooting alongside much larger service guns. It was the clear favorite among the 3 "little 9's" we shot, even though some felt the Kahr had a better trigger and objectively the P9 shot slightly tighter groups. Overall, I consider the Shield $309 well spent.
Today, being the cheapskate that I am at times, I succumbed to an impulse purchase. An online retailer was offering the M&P 40 Compact as a law enforcement package with 3 magazines and factory night sights for $380, shipping included, brand new. I don't know about you, but I consider this a heck of a deal, so I ordered one.
I've owned .40's in the past, and I know that now we are not supposed to want them anymore, but I figured at this price for a new Smith, how badly could I get hurt? Call me crazy, but I guess I'm back in the .40 business for at least one gun.
