During my time living in Laredo about 30 years ago, I worked with two Mexican brothers who lived in Nuevo Laredo, and were fairly wealthy, having many business ventures in both the US and in northern Mexico. They once told me that they thought it was hilarious that Corona beer had become so popular in the US. At least at that time, they said that Mexicans considered it the worst swill in Mexico, fit only for the poorest Mexican peons at the very bottom of the social ladder.

P.T. Barnum 101...it's all in the marketing!

The Most Interesting Man in The World retired so he wouldn't have to peddle mexican swill beer anymore. He actually lives in Vermont, and he has been seen around here buying Molson's now that hes retired and can buy the good stuff.

I work and socialize with a lot of Mexican and Mexican-American people. I did a poll, and among my amigos here in Luna County, New Mexico, two of the more popular brands are Estrella Jalisco and Pacifico.

But I do like the Corona joke, and ContinentalOp's snappy riposte about Lime Disease deserves the rim shot of the week, IMHO.

Funny. I do like Dos Equis Amber though. I believe it was styled after German darks when Europeans migrated to Mexico.

I just put as I didn't survive years or swilling Everclear in high school to be taken out by a disease named after a beer.

Now on the serious side, take precautions but don't give to the hysteria.
