Hey, everyone. Just wanted to show off a few photos of my new-to-me S&W Model 17 and, even though this is the S&W forum, my son's new-to-him Baby Browning :D

My wife and I just had our first child, a son, about a week ago and my grandfather came up here to Tacoma from Eugene, OR to visit us. He brought up a handful of guns from his collection to show me, and ended up giving his great grandson and I one each. He knows I have an affinity for vintage S&W revolvers, so he gave me a really nice condition Model 17-2, original numbered grips too :) For my son, who's named 'Ron' after my grandfather, he gave us a great little .25 Baby Browing. I was very touched by his gifts. These are a couple guns that will never be leaving my collection and that will hopefully be passed on to my son's kids years down the line. As soon as my son is old enough, the M17 will be a nice .22 to start him on...I'll teach him to respect guns and appreciate them as my grandfather taught me. The Baby Browning is just a neat little collectible and will be remembered as my son's very first gun...not bad, getting his first firearm at 6 days old ;) And who better to give it to him than his great-grandfather! Anywho, I just wanted to share that with you all...as I'm proud to be a new dad, to own my first (of hopefully many) blued S&W's, and to have such a great and generous grandfather :D

This M17 has really made me appreciate the beauty of the blued S&W's...maybe a 27-2 is next!

Congrats on the kid and the guns! First gun at 6 days old is gonna be a great story to tell.

Congrats on your new son and a great couple of guns!

Great story. You are very lucky to have your Grandfather around. What a nice jesture of him to create a family legacy through those wonderful guns.

He sure kept the 17-2 in great shape. It's beautiful.

Congrads on your son. You have the right mentaility that is missing today in society.

I will be a dad soon as my wife is 14 weeks now. I hope to do the same with my children.

Thanks for your post it was inspiring.

Have fun and be safe.

What a great story! Your father was very generous to you both. You are blessing with a great dad and a wonderful son.

Thaks for all the kind words and congratulations, everyone :) My grandfather is a great man, he helped raise me in place of my "real" father...so, I was happy to name my son for him. I felt bad taking 2 nice guns from his collection, but he was more than happy to pass 'em down to his grandson and great-grandson. He knows they'll be appreciated and taken care of. I know that Model 17 will see lots of use in the coming years...everyone loves a .22, especially a high quality S&W :D

Robert, first I wish to thank you for your service to OUR great country!! Congrats on becoming a new Father. Your son is very fortunate to have you as his Father and a Grandfather who is so kind and giving. This is what makes OUR country what is is. We have right to pass on to our children the ideas and tools to make them the best AMERICA has! Teach him well what you know to be true. Let him and his siblings shoot that Model 17, you will never wear it out. Thanks for sharing with us your latest treasures and remind your wife often that she is the most important part of your "Team". Kyle

Thank you for the kind words, GF. I wouldn't of ended up with any of those attributes if it wasn't for my grandfather though. I've got him to thank for helping raise me to where/how I am today. And I'll be sure to pass on how I was raised to my son...among everything else, he'll be be punching holes in paper and ventilating soda cans as soon as he can safely hold and operate a firearm ;)

Congrats Robert on both the fine weapons and that fine son of yours! Thanks for your service to our coutry too!
May you and yours be truly blessed! Dale

congrats on the little guy and the fine guns!

Hey Tacoma, your collection is off to a great start! Been to the WAC shows in Puyallup? Usually a fair amount of Smiths to oggle.

Todd

Hey, Todd. I've been here in WA for over 4 years now, and (as horrible as it sounds), I still have yet to attend a WAC show :o I'm on a local gun forum, you may of heard of it: SeattleGuns.NET and I've been told by a couple members there that I need to check the shows out. Especially since I'm on the lookout for a Highway Patrolman right now ;)
