I don't know if this is something common to gun clubs around the country or not, and am curious to hear from you, and what you think.

One of the gun clubs I am a full member of ( since 1976 ), is
a large clay shooting club, many trap and skeet fields, 5-Stand, and Sporting Clays course, with hundreds of members.

They do not hold any NRA competitive events.

But, a prerequisite for membership in this club is that you maintain an active membership in the NRA. Your thoughts?

Personally, I have and always will be a member of the NRA,
until I tip over.

My club too. Gotta be a NRA member to join. NRA did supply us with funds for range building which makes it possible for more shooters to practice as more room is provided.

The private membership clubs I belong to in this area also require NRA membership. They provide much support with competition, youth and training programs. We have also received funds for range improvements and other things with various grant programs from them. We are also able to provide discounts for NRA memberships. Good deal all around!

The NRA offers the clubs very good benefits if the membership is 100% NRA. One is liability insurance and they have many more.

The club I belong to is 100% NRA membership as a condition to join.

My club in Pa you must be a NRA member. I think the NRA helps the club with some things. Just renewed for another three years.

Our local Club used to have insurance thru the NRA, at that time it was a requirement that 50& of the Club members must be NRA member to maintain the insurance. The Club changed insurance carriers to avoid that requirment.

Must be an NRA member at our club too.
Say it's because of the liability insurance.

Fine by me.

Who runs the club..

Do they want NRA competitions at the club. Are people interested enough to turn out and support competitions?
I don't care about the NRA membership. I are one anyway.

I would like to be a member of some 'legitimate shooting team' so I could have access to DCM deals.

NRA membership is required where I shoot.

They sponsor lots of organizations and shooters but no NRA events.

They have an NRA representative for their training and programs but he really isn't too involved in the activities of the club.

I would like to be a member of some 'legitimate shooting team' so I could have access to DCM deals.

I think it's the CMP now and if your club is an affiliate you already have the association you need. Go to the CMP website and see if your club is listed.

Find a CMP Affliated Club - Civilian Marksmanship ProgramCivilian Marksmanship Program

I'm waiting for the USGI 1911's to be released this year. I'm going to buy one if I have a chance. My club is an affiliate.

My fiend told me that some 30 years ago the local gun collector's club added the NRA membership to their rules. There was a lot of grousing and groaning from some of the more 'frugal' members, and some dropped out. Now i's sort of taken for granted that you have to be an NRA member.

I belong to Seitzland Rifle Club in New Freedom, Pennsylvania, and NRA membership is a requirement there as well. Seitzland is a competition club, with NRA-sanctioned matches held throughout the year.

This will step on toes but who don't care is me. I believe that if it wasn't for the NRA we wouldn't have guns. I also believe that every gun owner should belong and it should be a requirement to belong to a club or shoot at a club for the person to be a member. If you ride the train you need a ticket. Gun owners that don't belong are freeloading and riding the backs of those that do pay. Larry
