Hopefully someone will find this info useful. Some of you may know that I did a handguard conversion last month using Tacticool22's kit. AFAIK, there was only one barrel nut adapter at the time. I wasn't quite satisfied with the look because there was a large gap between the upper receiver and the delta ring.

A couple weeks ago, I found out that he has a new 1-A version. I purchased in and installed it yesterday. With the new adapter, you have to cut the tabs on the upper receiver, but it really helps to get rid of the gap (the lower tab was already removed by the previous owner and I removed a bit more than 1/2 of the upper tab) I love the way it looks now. I still have enough of a gap to remove the handguards.

I just wish the adapter was black instead of silver (it is black on the website), although it isn't really too noticeable unless you look at it from behind. If I were to do it again, I would hit the adapter with some black paint before installation.

Before with old adapter (no close up available):

I'd like to discuss the adapter from Tacticool22 too. I finally received mine in the mail yesterday. Not sure which version it is, but it is black. Read the directions and immediately tried to install my new free float hand guard. Hand tightened the adapter until I got resistance, then used the tool that came in the kit to tighten a bit more. At this point, I'm concerned about over tightening or stripping threads, so I quit. When I screwed on the hand guard and gave it final twist, the barrel moved too.

Even if the barrel had not twisted, there was a large gap between hand guard and receiver. Tabs looked bad also. I hate to cut them off in the event I ever decide to revert to original config. I know I'm missing something and any help would be appreciated.

Could you use some cold blue on the new adapter?

thanks for the suggestion. i did try using perma blue but it didn't take. it seems like some sort of aluminum alloy.

i ended up touching up the visible areas with some flat black engine paint. it came out pretty good.

Well it still looks good.

I just noticed a similar gap on MP15A behind the delta ring.

A friend who has done some mods to his own guns offered some assistance today. He agreed it did not look right, so we tightened the barrel in the vise and got the adapter tight enough after a couple of tries. Seems like it required some of the paint or finish to be removed.

Try using flat black stove paint, hi temp. it has worked well for me...just popping in :D
