A letter to S&W from a City Marshal in the 20s & Images of him & the gun he ordered.

update

Update:

I recently found a silver colored revolver with pearl handles that was my grandfather's prize for winning the shooting contest in which I had posted the target. I have not yet photographed this gun--it was believed to have been lost forever. The next time I go to Arkansas I will photograph it and post pictures.

Jane:
Thank you for continuing to dig into the history of your family and Grandfather. Your contributions have helped us all to better understand the dedication of those past peace officers. We look forward to more pictures.

Hi Jane,

I'm another late comer to this thread. But wanted to add my grateful thanks to and in honor of, your grandfather. I may be far from Arkansas but certainly recognize not only his contributions but especially his ultimate sacrifice made on behalf of every American wherever we may reside in this great land of the free!

You have a most precious family heirloom complete with provenance!
I don't think anyone mentioned it, your grandfather's revolver is specifically known as the ".44 S&W Special Hand Ejector - 2nd Model".

I hope you take the opportunity to shoot and enjoy it. It's perfectly safe to fire with today's modern ammunition. Most of us shoot our S&Ws that are even much older.

I too, look forward to photos of his revolver 'Prize' to help identify it for you.

All the very best to you and your loved ones,

Just happened upon this thread and am breathless. I have always enjoyed history and this brings some, that is relatively close, to life for me. I want to thank Gurdon, Mrs Jane and L&O for bringing this to life for me. I have relatives who have served with law enforcement in Texas. Have tried to convey my appreciation that part of the family for the service of these people and voiced my appreciation to the ones who are still alive to hear it. Wishing I had seen this thread earlier and others who were in Law enforcement and their families (seems to run in families) being able to contribute. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

This is the best post and thread that I have ever read on this Forum. The Tyson family has been honored by so many here, as they should be. God bless Marshal Tyson and his memory. The character of the members of this Forum has been demonstrated in a beautiful way. We honor those who serve and have given the last full measure of devotion. I am privileged to be a member of this Forum.
