But $2,500.00 is a bit steep for something I would carry and shoot until I wore it out. Now, if I hit the lottery...

That is a lot of looooot for a k-frame 22. How many did they make for the post office?

Do you have to drive a little white truck when you take it to the range?

I had a pre 18 a few years ago, cost me less than $30.00 and I did not like it. I have just always wanted a S&W 45.

Was your issue with it very sticky extraction? I had a M-34 that gave that trouble. I hated it and will never buy another .22 revolver.

I thought I was buying a K38, but then figured I would keep it as everyone raves about K22s. I thought it was too heavy, I could not shoot it well until I put some Rogers stocks on it and tried high speed ammo. The gun had no extraction problems with any ammo I tried. The finish was cosmetically challenged, and the wait time for a factory re-do was nearly a year back then. I sold it and bought a S&W 65-3, which I really like and use.

Yeah, a Model 65 is a solid gun. Glad that you like it. I'd have taken that deal, too.

Back around 1965 I toured the H.H. Harris cop shop in Chicago. Quite a few interesting S&Ws on display there, including a Model 45. Being pretty broke in those days, it stayed there.

Circa 1972 The Border Patrol Academy was doing its initial training with Model 18s, which IMHO with the adjustables is a better way to go anyway. My 18-2 has been with me 33 years now and suits me just fine. But the Model 45 is cool, too.

The sticky extraction problem can be fixed, by having a SAAMI Standard Finishing reamer run through all the chambers. S&W .22 Revolver chambers are historically undersized. Numerous fine guns have been fixed this way, and the .22 CM (Mod 18) is a prized and desirable item by both collectors and shooters.

Do all K frame Smith 22's have the heavy barrel? I would love to find one with a lighter barrel.

Total production of the mod 45 is around 1500 according to my letter from Roy Jinks. I prefer fixed sight guns to adj sight on guns I carry. But I don't carry $2500 guns. And they go for $2500 and up. way up.

I like them.
I have some of them and have no regrets.
I think that they are all business and no frills, just thrills.
Each to his own I guess.

If that gun was LNIB then it could sell for something north of $3,000.

"Tell me again how this gun is about 4X better than a Model 18-2,3,4?" pharmer

Why? No one said it was better. It's just different and has a different lineage and provenance. I like the fact that the gun is a bit 'different' from the 'others'. And, " the Model 45 is cool, too".

In the field or in the box, I like them.

Didn't pick up on the jealousy I guess. I am in awe of guys able to plunk down $4-5 digits for a firearm. Joe
