A little "Bluegrass" humor

Heard this Saturday at a guitar shop and I recalled the recent thread here about how many times "Free Bird" has been played.

To the absolute delight of some,who consider it an "anthem" of sorts; and those others, who shriek for relief when it starts.

Anyway the story goes like this:

Two ole boys up there at Moundsville state prison house in W. Va. had exhausted their last appeal and were to be electrocuted one right after the other.
The warden told em, "boys, I'll try to grant ya a last wish if I can".
The first ole boy said: "ya know, I was a banjo picker fore I got up here, and I'd like just one more chance to play Foggy Mountain Breakdown".
Warden sez: "well I think I can arrange that-un alright, how about what you want" he said to number two.

"Well, if it weren't too much trouble, could you kill me first" ?

You ever feel those sentiments Rusty1953 ?

As a proud banjo player, both 5-string and 10-string, I am offended by these derogatory comments and so-called jokes about banjos and banjo players. There is nothing so pleasing as the melodious sound of a 10-string banjo. Bluegrass and banjo music is the sound of America.

I can relate to this. If I have to listen to "Orange Blossom Special" one more time I'll yank every last hair out of my head.

I know a fiddler that would not play "Orange Blossom Special".

The story is told of Earl Scruggs about him falling as he exited the stage after a show. His banjo took a lick and he is supposed to have said: "Did it knock it in tune?"

P.S. I like Bluegrass Music and banjos, but I also love banjo jokes.

I love good bluegrass music also country and western and some classic rock and also gospel but I must admit when I first moved to Alabama I was at a little country church and the pastor who was a friend of mine asked me to play a few hymns on my guitar .At the end of the service he asked was their anyone who wanted to request any songs .This lady raised her hand and said we haven't sung sweet home Alabama in a long time pastor does he know that one .The pastor looks at me and I said well yes I know it but is that appropriate here .He smiles and says you in Alabama boy that is considered a hymm here so I break into an acoustic rendition of Sweet Home and sure enough that group of people came to there feet and we had a fired up sing along .I guess I don't get tired of hearing the classics and definitely love to watch and listen to someone who has taken tne time to learn to play an instrument perform . To all you banjo guys and girls thanks heck thanks to all you folks who can clapp your hands and stomp your feet and try to stay in time I'm gonna go play a song or two and take another drink of wine lol . Only Skinnard fans will understand that last line .
