A little "Bluegrass" humor

I know a fiddler that would not play "Orange Blossom Special".

The story is told of Earl Scruggs about him falling as he exited the stage after a show. His banjo took a lick and he is supposed to have said: "Did it knock it in tune?"

P.S. I like Bluegrass Music and banjos, but I also love banjo jokes. :-)

Have a blessed day,

Leon

I Hope you do Leon... given your board name and all!

I love Bluegrass and Old Time Country String band music. Uniquely American and appreciated world wide, even in Japan!

I've seen many of the greats at a small venue in New Jersey called the Englishtown Music Hall. Held about 150 people max. How the owner got all the great acts up there I'll never understand. Sadly no longer there. I'll remember those shows for as long as I live.

Hey! I like..

Hey, I like banjos. But then I like bagpipes.

Why do bagpipe players walk around when they play?

They're trying to get away from the noise.

I really do like banjos AND bagpipes. But has anybody heard bagpipes indoors at very close range???

I was born and grew up in North Dakota. When I was in my teens I visited relatives in Alabama. It was my first trip Down South. They had a guitar, and asked me to sing a song for them. I played the Hank Williams song, "Hey Good Lookin'." My cousin's husband said, "That shore do sound purdy with your Yankee accent."

I thought to myself, "What accent? I'm singing it regular."

We played Bluegrass and Old Time music for the rest of the night. Good times.

Folks just can't seem ta get enough of that Old Timey music!

In the 1800's a guitar was considered as low an instrument as was available and a banjo fit for any and all stage performances.

My son one time asked me "Why don't that guy in the skirt let those screeching cats out of the bag instead of squeezing them?

I on the other hand love the sound of bag pipes. My son is half Italian.

For another perspective, here's a serious article on the banjo from - wait for it - The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (!)
The Banjo: The Engineer's Instrument

Nice and informative article. Among the many styles of music I enjoy, bluegrass figures prominently, and many, many years ago I wanted to be an engineer. Who knew that required mathematical aptitude?

I love good banjo music. I'm also fond of bagpipes. So sue me. :D
