Hey everybody.

I purchased my M&P15-22 in February. I have the A1 version with the blue springs on the bolt. I've taken it to the range a few times with only slight issues usually me not taking the time to load the magazine correctly but I wanted to ask about my last range visit.

I shot about 200 rounds total and about 1/2 way through I loaded a short 10 round mag and one of the shots produced a lot of smoke out of the chamber. Much more than normal. It was an indoor range, I had my glasses on and a brass catcher attached to the rail. I didn't notice a difference in noise with the shot but just the general amount of smoke made me unload, check the mag, check the gun and make sure my extractor was still there. Everything looked good but I didn't check the casing, I couldn't find any problems. Was it an OOB or something else? I had lubed the bolt carrier before I stated shooting with Mpro 7 CLP but I had put a good amount of rounds through before this happened.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

When my gun experienced an OOB there was a poof of smoke that came from the chamber, but the case didn't eject from the chamber.

I checked and saw the chamber was closed and racked out the shell, it was a loaded, ready to go round and that one looked fine so the gun loaded properly after the smoke but I thought it was rather odd. I was shooting CCI Blazers, I forgot to mention.

From what you are describing I would say it isn't an OOB. I can't tell you where the smoke came from, but i would say it the gun functuned properly ejecting the spent case a loading a new round it wasn't an OOB.

If this happens again, try to find the casing and see if there is any evidence of an OOB, i.e. the thing would be deformed or split open.

Like this? :(

Case was still in chamber, so it was easy to find. Big LOUD noise, a little stuff hit my face. Rifle is currently in S&W's hand.
