A memory from my past - seeing my first S&W...

XP 100

I always find intriguing the memories that stick with a person for many years. One of mine was seeing pictures of scoped revolvers in the gun magazines I perused in my youth. It took some years but now I have some along with the space age looking Remington XP 100 in .221 Remington Fireball. The old foggy Phantom scope had to go though.

Back in the 1960's, My father bought me one of the first XP 100 Rem. I put a 3 or 4 power scope on it, just like the one on your gun. A lot of varmints and grackles ate those 40gr. .221 slugs. It was a ball to shoot! I wonder if that is my old gun?

John, the more I look at that photo, the more I like it..wow!

You do know, just like a new baby, we're going to need more pictures! :)

Do you have a barbecue rig for it yet?

OK, Linda - here's a picture of the reverse side of the gun -

No, I don't have a BBQ rig for it, and I still hunger for a proper original box!

Thanks for your comments!

John, that sure is purdy!! It would almost be a shame to put it in a BBQ rig and cover it

Red box will be a challenge but I'm sure you're up to it… look how long it took to get this one. At least with a box you won't have to worry about month & year :D

Something like this holster might look good..

My first S&W was a Nickel-Plated M&P with a 5-inch barrel. It was my High School graduation present from my parents. I wish I still had it. But like a dumb kid I traded it before I went to Viet Nam. I don't know why I traded it or for what. Wish I still had it.

My 1st view of S&W revolvers was at our local Montgomery Wards in GF, Montana in the early 70's…I was taken by the 4" model 66's…they had several stainless models and I didn't pay as much attention to the blued guns but, the stainless and nickel revolvers put the burning in my palm…many years later about 1985, my first owned S&W was a 6" S prefix model 28..well used but very serviceable…then my first new purchase was a 4" 686 at the new price then in '87 for $268 the day I returned from USMC boot camp….and the fever never left! Nice story about your first sighting at your Dad's work place with the guard..I remember seeing one of our city policemen wearing his uniform with his red plastic handled revolver positioned cross-draw with all that black leather basket weave rig, and I was quite intrigued as I was about 5 yrs old and we were in McDonald's, which was a fascinating experience also since it was new to our town then lol!
