So, on my way back home this evening I swung by the local range. I'd made up some test loads that I wanted to try plus I'd found some old remanufactured 357 that I bought at a gunshow back when I owned a Colt 357 Magnum (pre-Trooper)(I sold it to buy a S&W :D ). I also had picked up some Remington JSP to turn into "once fired brass" for reloading.

The Good:

My test loads of 158 gr Rimrock LSWCHP-GC over 13.5 gr/1.0 CC Lee Dipper of 2400 are a delightful load to shoot. Hotter than a 38+p but not fire breathers either and more accurate than I am. 158 XTP JHP over the same are almost as good but I wasn't as accurate with them.

The Ugly:

The Remingtons are ... stout. I'll save them for when I get that Rossi 92 I have on layaway paid for. Could be a good deer load in that 24" barrel.

The Bad:

I know I know, never use anyone else's hand loads and really most little remans are just handloaders writ large. These were 158 gr JHP with an unknown load.

Boom! Yow!
Boom! Yeash, these are heavier than the feeping Remingtons. Lets just get them used up.
Boom! Boom! Boom! BOOOM! ***?!?! Yeah, everything is still intact but that was one (bleep) of a fireball and sounded MUCH louder. Oh, goodie, the empties are sticking...
The rest go back in a little box for breaking down and reusing the brass at a sane level.

A better day that some and a good reminder about unknown ammo with a safer than it could have been ending.

13.5 gr of 2400 and a 158 is a good load for K-Frames. 6gr of Unique is a safe load too. Ive been shooting those to loads out of my 13-2 for years. Couldn't find 2400 but have been using a start load of 15gr H110 ,brass just falls out , no flattened Primers. This load feels and sounds hotter than the other two, but shows no high pressure signs at all and is quite accurate. Stay away from hot 110 & 125s.
