A new low in air travel......

You’ve flown in a Cessna King Air, eh? ;) (It’s a Beechcraft.) I’m just happy to know our Cajunlawyer doesn’t leave before the plane lands. :D

Actually, I tend a little toward Hsguy’s point of view. Much as I dislike the present “state of the art” (if you can call it that with a straight face), it does get me to places I couldn’t go otherwise, and in one piece - so far. We’re paying a price for the price. My last flight to Europe cost less than my first one (in 1977). But the good old days are gone, and gone in many ways other than air travel, too. I guess I’ll always be a 747 guy at heart and, like that magnificent airplane, the industry is leaving “us” behind.

By the way, for those GA people who think they will always escape TSA, I doubt it. I think our day is coming. Either that, or we will be excluded from facilities handling commercial traffic.
Sorry about the mis identification, the boss upgraded about four years ago and I’m not an airplane guy. Mea culpa.

There was a Mexican restaurant in Austin that had a couple signs on the wall:
“Birds fly, Men drink”
and
“Given the choice, I shall never fly
Given no choice, I shall never fly sober”

I followed the second for quite a few years.;)

Since I've retired, we drive most places. Did go to Europe last month so driving would have been a challenge. We lessened the impact by flying business class. Really, really nice but we paid for it...whew. I'll be glad to be travelling in the truck again next week on our cruise to Chattanooga.

Technically TEXTRON is parent of Hawker,Beechcraft and Cessna.
So in reality they all should be referred to as TEXTRON models.

But we still call um
Cessnas
Beechcrafts
Hawkers
Etc.

I think the OP forgot about one of the most important traits of the Salmon.

As soon as the plane lands, they all jump up out of their seats and stand in the aisle as if they are actually going to get off! Then of course there is always someone in the back that is "late" and tries to push their way though to get in the front while everyone is taking bags down from the overhead, Now you sit in your seat with someones butt in your face!

I had to do a lot of work related flying in another life after retiring from law enforcement and I haven’t boarded a flight since. It’s an understatement to say I don’t miss air travel a little bit.

We fly to Destin/Ft Walton beach Florida pretty often since my wife loves to hang out at the beach and Allegiant Airlines has flights for $120 bucks roundtrip non stop from OKC. I'm fine with that price because I would probably spend that much on gas if I drove from Oklahoma City but if you take a bag its an additional $40 for each one. They don't consider a backpack a bag so I've learned to take everything I need in a small backpack for a 4-5 day trip and I actually like "traveling light" and now I don't want a rolling carry-on bag even if it was free.

I was on a Eastern Airline flight that the landing gear failed to deploy on. The engineer tore up the aisle carpet and crawled into the fuselage and hand cranked the landing gear down, I can still hear him saying to the cockpit over and over, "No, it will not lock". We were put in crash position (like that would make a difference) and told to expect a "very Rough" landing. After circling forever, we were sent to a remote runway lit up by emergency vehicles. In the end the landing gear held, and when the "attendant' (no longer stewardess) thanked us for flying Eastern and hoped that we would fly Eastern again, the tension was released in the loudest most sincere laughter ever heard. Then we slid down the emergency chutes and walked past the ambulances to the buses. I am happy if the plane stays in the air when it is supposed to and lands safely. The rest is details. If you don't like flying - drive or take a criuse.

50 years ago travel by airliner was an event! We prepared for the trip, we wore our best clothes, we behaved ourselves like grandma was watching everything we did. Now people show up in ragged sweats and shower flip-flops...

It took me some time to realize the reason I kept getting pulled out of line and patted down was because I was the only person boarding who was not dressed like a slob.

I do the same. Even if I have to buy some clothes there it's easier than the checked bag hassle.
OTOH, out of country flights on non domestic airlines actually treat people better.

For a really lousy flying experience, use your credit card air miles. Flight selection is limited, 4 booking attempts later you have round trip tickets 3 months early which gives the airline plenty of time to change flight numbers for you.

That deliberate 2.5 hour layover for a decent meal in a sit-down restaurant is now a 20 minute dash from end-to-end inside the airport facility. I have two replacement knees complete with scars to prove why the scan chirps, TSA pre-check means nothing because I get everything searched including the no-prep colonoscopy.

Just how big a threat is a 71 year old fat guy with artificial knees? TSA has one procedure manual, but every employee has their personal interpretation.
