A new low...

In one plaza I end up in frequently, there is a Blockbuster with a tiny parking lot off to one side of the main parking area. Across the parking lot (which seriously has no more than 15 spots) is a bank, dollar store, and a continuing row of stores. Parking at Blockbuster on a busy night is usually impossible. There is one handicap spot near the front of BB.

One night my girlfriend and I came out of BB and got in my truck. I was about to leave when this big ol' Chevy jacked up so high that NBA players would need a ladder to get into it pulled into the handicap spot since it was the only open spot. Out jumps a young guy... for a split second I though maybe he was returning a rental into the drop box (which is right in front of the handicap spot). Nope. He bounds into the store instead.

Well I tell my girlfriend I'll be right back and get out. I walked by his truck and checked his plate.. not handicap.. I also looked for a tag.. none. Sitting in the truck was his girlfriend, chompin on gum listening to loud music. Off into the store I go.

I find the guy along the new rental wall.. with his basketball shorts hanging half off his butt and his hat turned sideways. I walked up to him and said "excuse me, I don't know if you noticed but you parked in the handicap spot". He replied, "oh really? Eh I won't be long".

I wanted to slap him. Instead I made up a story.. "well you should probably move it. The cops have been ticketing that spot a lot lately and one is in the plaza now". He looked at my as if he was thinking of something to say. After a few seconds of him giving me a blank look I said "I think you should go move your truck".

Well he muttered something under his breath and headed on out. I stopped at the front to talk to the manger (just to say hi, I know her because.. I used to work there!). When I got out I saw him walking back to the store... he parked in the closest spot about 200 ft away in the main parking area. Man did he look cross. I got into the truck and my girlfriend was laughing. She said he came out and looked extremely mad. The girlfriend raised her hands in a confused expression and it looked like her yelled a response at her. He was extremely irritated by me I believe.

I felt good after that. People who are too dumb / inconsiderate / self important who park in handicap spots when they shouldn't really get to me.

there is rampant abuse im sure, but i will tell this story. my cousin was about 23 or so, 6 ft tall, slender, blonde, good looking, would make any guy here turn his head. anyway, she has(d) a degenerative hip problem, basically hip displasia for humans, quite rare actually. she had to have surgery on both sides of her pelvis about a year apart to fix it. a few weeks after each surgery, she was up and around but after a few dozen steps she was quite winded and had to stop to rest. shes 100% now and doesnt have the placards anymore, but when she was recovering she needed them. but to see a sexy young thing bounce from car parked in the HC spot and appear ok, you would think she was abusing the system but she wasnt. so dont always pass judgement so quickly.

I saw a Harley Davidson Electa Glide with a handicap tag on it. I have offen wondered about that.

Saw a couple spaces marked "Expectant Mother" the other day.
At Wegmans, a regional grocery chain (and seriously the best supermarkets I've ever been in), they have "stork parking" for pregnant women.

I always wonder what's stopping any female from parking there.. she could be pregnant and just not showing.

I had a guy yesterday take exception to my father who has the tag parking in a handicap area, he has lots of health problems and I'm currently getting around on crutches or if much distance is involved I use a wheelchair and this jerk was annoyed at us. He didn't stop when I got out on crutches either. He did stop when I told him I was going to use a crutch on him if he didn't shut up and join the human race. I hate zombies.

Saw this for the first time at the mall the other day. A good looking blonde got out of her car after parking there. She didn't look the slightest bit pregnant so I asked nicely why she parked there. She winked at me land said: "Well its only been about an hour. (o;

My wife hates to go shopping with me because I'll call someone out in a heartbeat for parking in the H/C spot if they're not handicapped. I came close to blows with one big, young fellow when I made the comment to him that his handicap must be a mental one since it obviously wasn't physical.

Please don't be too quick to judge. Not everyone has a physical handicap that you can see. Many people have what are called "Invisible Handicaps", such as a bad heart or bad lungs. Not just anyone can get the plates or hang tag. You MUST have a medically necessary reason! ...... -Ed.

+1....Very true. My wife has crushed vertebrae, fom a car accident, and the corrective surgery did not correct the injury nearly as well as we hoped it would. She looks normal when she gets out of the car but a very short walk, or more than a brief period of time on her feet, brings on a nasty round of back pain.
On the other hand, since she was issued a HC tag, we now pay more attention to who uses(and abuses) the HC parking spaces. Many of the people in this area who have the tags, have them simply because they are fat. And I say that because I personally know several of these people and there is absolutely nothing wrong with them that losing 100 pounds would not cure...some by their own admission. The docs around here will Ok the tags for just about anyone who asks for them.
