In the past year I was able to acquire a period wood case, as well as a set of correct Bekaert numbered target grips [from a generous SWCA member] for A O Niedner's personal revolver, which at one time was part of the Michael Petrov collection. Micheal literally wrote the book [as shown] on the old outstanding gunsmith's & owned the largest collection of A O Niedner customized guns on the planet. This was the only A O Niedner handgun in his collection. The revolver was also purchased a few years ago from another SWCA member. The last image show's Niedner's Malden, Mass. stamp, which he only put on his personal guns after moving to Dowagiac, Mich.; the revolver lettered as shipped with the Reg. Police grips that are on it.

Beautiful set. If I read your post correctly, It seems that you got the case separately, correct? Does it have a history of its own? Also, is it my imagination, or is the hammer spur somewhat shortened? This was commonly done one those revolvers, either purposely ofr as a result of an accident. Regardless, the gun, grips, box and book make an outstanding package. Well done!

Yes, the case was purchased containing a different 22/32 revolver. The hammer on this one was bobbed by Niedner, & front sight was replaced with a Sheard sight, trigger was grooved, & the barrel replaced. The gun was shipped in late 1919 to Minnesota dealer, Niedner acquired it short time later, and had a new barrel installed by the factory Oct. of 1922, most likely Niedner lapped, etc. the barrel to his standards.

As the owner of a high number Springfield M1903, (877xxx, seen in my avatar) I followed along on Maj. Dick Culver's site for a number of years while Michael Petrov was an active member / frequent poster.
His collection of custom Springfields was unmatched. Of course, both Michael and Major Culver are gone, now but I sure enjoyed their "company" while here.

Nice kit, OP.
